Greatest Irish Fighters
As it is St Patricks day I have pondered on the great Irish boxers that have graced the sport and compiled my top 10 of all time. With so many American boxers having Irish descent for ease of purpose I have kept it strictly to those born in Ireland.
1. Jimmy McLarnin
2. Nonpareil Jack Dempsey
3. Tom Sharkey
4. Jack McAuliffe
5. Mike McTigue
6. Barry McGuigan
7. Rinty Monaghan
8. Peter Maher
9. Steve Collins
10. Wayne McCullough
I imagine there are a good number of fighters with direct Irish heritage such as John L Sulivan, Gene Tunney and many more not to mention countless fighters with Irish American backgrounds. But that debate could last all day so my list is purely fighters that were born in Ireland themselves.

An impressive list it is, Colonial Lion, and particularly so for so small a country.

If we are sticking to guys solely based in Ireland would probably find a place for old timer Ike Weir, read about him on the IBRO website some time ago and apart from being a terrific fighter he was a true character and anyone who was a drinking buddy of John L Sullivan will do for me.

Re: Greatest Irish Fighters
Steve Collins is a very underrated fighter. I would have loved to have seen him in with RJJ and Toney - he would have given them a hard night
