Putter Grip - inovative product Empty Putter Grip - inovative product

Folks,
I recently changed my putter grip to a new product called P2 (launched late last year). It was designed by the club pro in my old club. Please dont jump on me for advertisement, it may be a slight plug for a friend and a good bloke however it is also a pretty nifty product that I think some of you may be interested in having a look at.
http://www.p2grips.ie/ for information.

The reason I changed to it was that it encourages a slight reverse hinge to the wrists that brings the putter in a straight line with the lead arm and aims to set this throughout the stroke. It does this through the positioning of the shaft through the grip. I had been working on something similar following Steve Stricker’s lead as he employs a similar method.

So far I have found it to be excellent, it definitely helps a setting of the wrists and less face rotation of the putter blade through the stroke. I’ve been holing out very well from 4-6 feet with it so far.

Well worth a look.

Thing I like about the ad is the "sets your hands squarely on the club every time" or words to that effect.
Anything that can do that, also a la KJ Choi's fat grip, is a step towards more consistent putting.

Looks like a good product. The best ideas are normally simple.

I have generally been a good putter and tried lots of methods over the years, but having the hand high and almost having the heel off the ground is one method which I recall working (guess I'll be trying it again on Saturday now).

I can recall one local great putter that did this in a very exagerated fashion. I guess in the pro ranks Steve Stricker is the most obvious example and one of the best putters to boot.

I guess this grip puts the hands in the high "locked" position but keeps the club flat to the ground. Best of both worlds perhaps.

I hope your friend has protected his idea cause if it becomes populer the big boys will just copy it.

I believe he has patented the product - or at least a certain feature of its design.

I think Scotty Cameron/Titleist have a similar deep pistol like grip. The shape of your friends pistol grip looks more pronounced though.

In the ever changing world (and shapes) of putters and grips I think that golfs governing bodies are closer to looking at changing the rules on grip length rather than club length. That might mean also looking at grip thickness as well.

After seeing the size of Matt Every's putter head last week link I think they should start with putter head size before it catches on like the belly putters and thick 2 thumb grips etc. Or else it really will get ridiculous.

Matt Every's putter is ridiculous, looks like a dvd player stuck on the end of the shaft

I can remember being amazed by the size of Jack Nicklaus's putter when he won the 86 Masters. Saw a clip of his putt on 17 a few months ago and it didn't look all that big now by today's standards.

I guess this is progress. Perhaps putter heads need to fit inside the hole. That would allow blades through to mallets but keep the overall size within common sence limits.

The best putter I ever had was a BeCu Ping Pal - can't remmeber the number. Similar to an anser but looked twice as long and half as thin. I recall high inertia was the theory, but where does it stop.

P2 grip looks very interesting. Just clicked on both "Stockist" links on the website though, and couldn't see the grip stocked on either one (from a quick look)!

I'm always up for a putter grip change though, which is a problem in itself. Tried the KJ Choi Fatso for a few months at the end of last season, but it was just TOO fat for my smallish hands. Have recently replaced it with the slimmer Fatso grip, but haven't used it in anger outside yet given the state of putting greens at the moment!

Might well have a look at the P2 though. Just looking at the blurb, years ago I used to putt with my hands raised higher like that ... and was a lot better in those days! Not sure why I changed. Laugh
