2000: 3(1) 1(0)
2001: 3(2) 1(1) 1(0)
2002: 2(1) 1(0)

2009: 1(0)
2010: 4(2) 2(1) 1(0)
2011: 4(2) 2(0)
2012: 2 ...
What does this prove?
I don't know. But at least I'm open about it.

French teams are unable to beat non-French teams in the final?

It is intresting that it looks that the top 14 has always been stronger than the Prem
3 teams from England in QF 4 times to Frances 6 times (and 4 teams twice)
I don't think the English Prem has ever been as strong as teh top 14.

May be a small error in your stats Portnoy -
22/05/2010 - Biarritz Olympique 19 - 21 Toulouse - Stade de France - 78,962

also intresting is that between the English and French league on average they have 5 teams Between them in the QF's, (when France have 2 england have 3 and vice versa)
The only exceptions to this is last year when they managed 6 between them (they must have the best leagues in Europe) and this year they have only 3, they must be terrible leagues!

To me the biggest surprise with regards to French rugby in the HEC is that you have to delve back 15 years to find the last Frenchies to win the HEC who weren't Toulouse.

I guess it reflects the focus in France on the Top 14.
Brive managed a win in 1997 and a final in 1998, in between they were utterly trousered by the Auckland Blues in the only HEC vs Super Rugby winners match.

that's because all the other big teams (stade français, ASM, biarritz) were busy getting most of their T14 trophies leaving Toulouse to win the HC as a consolation prize

Theres a lot of truth to that Whocares. Remember when Bourgoin sent out a third team to Leinster and lost by 96 points.
The Top 14 seems to be the big carrot.

I did sort of deliberately separate the French/English HEC club posts. And more importantly the league/franchise structures.

ha those were the days of farmer rugby in France with teams like montauban and bourgoin flying the flag!
fortunately now that more or less all the big teams won the bouclier de brennus, they might have a serious go at the HEC : for some time ASM only trophy was the challenge cup so hopefully we will have at least 2 teams competing year in / year out now (believe the likes of stade français, racing and toulon are still too inconsistent and dont have a stable enough structure).
