MaxiMuscle
Saw an advert on this during the Arsenal/United game on Sunday and thought to myself perhaps I'll try it and see how it goes.
Just was wondering before I give it a go ahead, has anyone tried it here? Has anyone had any success with it and if so how much? Any bad experiences? (unlikely I guess)
Or is there better products out there? Cheers.

Use myprotein.co.uk a third of the price and none of the gimmicks!

Re: MaxiMuscle
Should we be going down the road of promoting supplements on here???

Re: MaxiMuscle
I wouldn't say it was promoting. More recommending. No problem with that, as long as it is legal
Re: MaxiMuscle
Overpriced.
You haven't stated your goals, which one you will be using and how. What will the rest of your diet be like etc...
To enough information to advise.

£24.99 for 908g is not bad. I use it. It tastes fine, is very good for muscle recovery and you should see some good gains within a month or so depending on your workout and usage of course.
I assume you are talking about the protein whey of course.
Edit: It's also a decent filler if you want to use it as a replacement for snacks as well.

Re: MaxiMuscle
I think Maximuscle is overpriced for what you get. There are loads of other brands available that offer up to 2kg for about the same price, without filling them with carbs or fat. I think with Maximusce you're paying partly for the label and partly for the 'extras' they put into the powders, like creatine and glutamine, which can all be bought separately.
I prefer to keep my protein powder as protein, and buy in the extras such as creatine, BCAAs and glutamine, just so it makes it easier to keep track of cycles and things like that.

Re: MaxiMuscle
There's only residual fat and carbs in the maximuscle I use, but if there are cheaper alternatives out there that will achieve similar results then it's maybe best avoided.

Re: MaxiMuscle
I only ever use whey protein.
BCAA's - seen a few mention of these. Anyone able to explain quickly what they do and how they're taken?

I wasn't referring to the Maximuscle products containing high fat and carbs, but other lesser brands. They often advertise cheap powders, but to the unsuspecting buyer are actually loaded with carbs and therefore make you pack on the bad kind of weight!
Maximuscle products such as Cyclone are lean, but contain other additives which boost the price up.

Re: MaxiMuscle
@Fists: BCAAs (Branched-chain Amino Acids) are a division of essential amino acids which contain leucine, isoleucine, and valine. They have a number of advantages, but basically they are proteins which are not produced in the body and are hard to supplement in a standard diet for various reasons. They improve muscular endurance because of the way the are metabolised -within the cell rather than in the liver.
They are a nice addition to other supplements, and are taken in tablet form.
Here's a nice article on them if you're interested in reading further:

You dont see good results in a month or so, unless of course you are a complete novice. Changing your protein powder will not give you massive strength/size increases.
Meal replacements are better than not eating, but those serious about training need to be eating proper food sources, not supplements.

Re: MaxiMuscle
If you want to spend that much use PHD Pharma whey - fantastic product. 6-7 pounds more but excellent.
Fists - they are muscle repairing amino acids - essential to humans.

Thanks for sharing that, bluestone.
So BCAA's would be pretty useful for myself in maintaining lean muscle, then?

Re: MaxiMuscle
I guess so yeh. Research has shown that users experienced longer and more intense sessions while taking BCAAs. They also prevent muscle breakdown and decrease muscle recovery time.

Yes. They are essential. I would get some asap if you are not already using them.

I don't want to gain any size though, would these have an effect on that? Haven't found any definitive answer to that on the net.

You will only gain size if you adapt your training to do so. BCAA's prevent muscle breakdown and aid repair.

I was speaking from my own perspective, and indeed when I started using it I was a complete novice - like everyone was once.
As for the replacement for snacks, I understand it's not the recommended use, but at the beginning when I was trying to cut my weight down and lose some body fat with a high protein diet, a protein shake would stave away hunger.
