Man United or Liverpool??
I fancy Liverpool to turn Man United over today. With United having to deal with alot of injuries.
And with Liverpool at home and playing with Gerrard and Bellamy i can only see victory for Liverpool.
I`ll go 3-1 Liverpool in this mouth-watering game, which is also on ITV which is even better.
Any more predictions?

Although it's unlikely that Bellamy is going to play as that would be 3 times in 7 days, it was surprising enough to see him in the City game. We need him, but I'm not confident in him playing.

United haven't won at Anfield since 2007, and with us coming off a superb performance against City, I think we'll win 1-0. Kenny plays the same team and we really take it to United then we'll do well, play Carroll and drop Bellamy we'll struggle.

Re: Man United or Liverpool??
The team for Liverpool is
--------------Reina
-----Skrtel-----Carragher----Agger
Kelly-----Gerrard----Henderson-----Enrique
Downing---------Carroll-----------Maxi
I can't help but not feel too confident considering the last time we played a formation like that against Stoke, we really struggled. The front line looks really immobile without Kuyt or Bellamy, and not even Glen Johnson to get down that right hand side. Martin Kelly is a defensive right back, not one who bombs up and down wings.
I hope I get proven wrong, but on seeing the team sheet my first thought wasn't a confident one.

Carroll has been superb for Liverpool. I haven't seen many pool games this year with Carroll would this be the best he has played?

Re: Man United or Liverpool??
Evra getting the blame for the winner all because that fits the story. In my view Smalling was to blame, he stayed deep and played Kuyt onside. Evra and the other 2 played offside from the flick on and would have got it if Smalling hadn't dropped deep. But as there was so much back story to this one Evra has to get the blame

Re: Man United or Liverpool??
Definitely the best he is played, held the ball up really well and seems to have actually regained his first touch. Hopefully he's had a burst of confidence from that. Downing also played really well I thought, tracked back well. Martin Kelly was my man of the match though, superb from him.
I think our patience paid off throughout the match, nail-biting stuff though.

Evra's positioning was poor, Smalling was never going to win the knock on so I wouldn't blame him.

Thats not my point without dropping deep Kuyt is offside.

You're taught from u-6s to stay goalside of your man. Evra didn't do that. Smalling was a bit deep but Evra is to blame.

Then there's no point having offside or trying to play for offside if you're going to tell everyone to stay goal side

Re: Man United or Liverpool??
Playing offside from a knock down from a goalkick is incredibly risky and stupid. It cost United there.
Just curious seeing as you're American, was this game on tv or did you watch it on the internet? I know FOX show some premier league games on tv.

Re: Man United or Liverpool??
Agree, offside is one of those where you can get it wrong spectacularly plus you can also do everything right and still pay. Not sure what else some teams can do when they are hammered for poor defending and yet played a guy offside. If the Lino doesn't give it will invariably cost a team.
Nice assumption about the yank thing just happen to be here. Fox have two football channels; fox soccer channel and fox soccer plus. They don't show some, they show plenty. I see more games here than I did when I was a season ticket holder and going to games. Sometimes ESPN show a live game but that is a relatively rare occurrence.
Today on both channels there are 5 live FA cup games, plus replays of 4 of those games

Re: Man United or Liverpool??
Definatley Andy Carrolls best game for Liverpool .
Despite all Man Utds possesion i thought we stopped them in the final third very well , Reina didn't have a lot to do .
I must admit i dont enjoy giving the oposition so much possesion and inviting them on like that , i thought we looked better after Adam and Kuyt came on the balance to the side seemed better .
Not the best performance but a win is a win .

I think Carroll's game against Manchester City where he scored two last year was better, but this season it was the best he's played.

Apologies Golfer, I thought the main Fox channel were showing some Prem ganes too though no? I looked at FSC a bit when I was on holidays last year. Some very good coverage on it. Surprising when you think of it that there is a dedicated channel to soccer in America but not one in England!

They do Thomond but no prem games this weekend. Can normally get 5 live games on a Saturday depending upon late and early kickoffs. They then will show a delayed coverage game too. Both Sunday games typically get shown live with one on each channel. All in all loads of football.

Re: Man United or Liverpool??
The main FOX Network showed Arsenal vs Man Utd last week and they've got Chelsea and Man U coming up. Think these are the first Prem games to be shown on "Network" TV. (If you count Fox as a Network rather than a Murdoch mouthpiece for Republican dogma. Unwatchable unless footie's on.)
ESPN have a game on Tuesday, Grumps and one on Saturday.

I'll take your word for it Thomond, but I can't stand Joe Buck and his cronies and won't watch their bottom-trawling regular fare, all pretty much contriving to make American's idle (of anything thought-provoking at any rate). Hope you manage to avoid their baseball coverage too.

Didn't they have the Champions League final on regular fox too this year.
I like some of their prime time shows too Bones, House, The Finder. Got some new dramas coming out too, haven't seen them yet but have them on the DVR
Talking of dedicated channels aren't the number of televised games limited so as not to affect attendances at league games. Not so much the premiership but at the lower levels where gate receipt money will be at a premium for some clubs.

CL Final. Think so,

It is when you watch it on FOX. Usually unfair and unbalanced.

Re: Man United or Liverpool??
Well i nearly got the 3-1 win as i predicted, if only Andy Carrol was any good and dick van dyck was a Ian Rush. The game though on a whole was bad no really bad, as my mate said the worst team won. United had injuries i admit, but the keeper is poor very poor, Giggs can perform in pieces, what a great cross he did in the first half, Rush would have finished that. He is like scholes, past it. On to Liverpool they did give United most of the ball Gerrard was not at his best, and what a master stroke by Kenny to take off Maxi before he got sent off, with his 2 footed tackle. For me though Skrtel was shocking. Can he not stop the ball with his foot and pass? why is it always up up and away into row Z, Hansen, and Lawrenson must be crying,if they were around today they would be earning mega money.

Skrtel is a very good defender, he has saved us more than once this season. Not every defender has to play fancy passing, I don't think I saw one example where Skrtel shouldn't have got rid of it.

You are kidding me ... you must be..
Carroll was awful and very awful at that.
Are you telling me then if he was superb as you say, it was his best game for Liverpool?
Therefore he must lead Englands attack into the Euro 2012?

Considering the lack of good service to him today he did very well, playing a big part in both goals, and had some nice touches today.
Certainly better than anything we've seen from him recently.

Come on Crimey. All Skrtel did was hoof the ball up the field as soon as he got the ball, surely he is better than that. This is Football not Rugby Union.

Caroll had a decent game - what I hope would soon be called a "normal" game from him. Skrtel was great! I always have my heart in my mouth when we try to 'Arsenal' it out of our box with the likes of Welbeck or Valencia rushing in. Look at what Enrique managed leadiing up to Man U's goal!
It clearly meant a lot to him^ in any case.

Carroll had an assist , won plenty of ball in the air and held it up fairly well. He is a a target man and did it very well . I was impressed with him anyway.

The only reason he is lost because Liverpool do not play to his stengths. His assist for Liverpool's winner shows that Liverpool must play a long ball game for Carroll to be successful there.

I had to laugh when i was sent this today
Liverpool's 35 million pound striker Andy Carroll has had to withdraw from a new mega hair product deal with L'Oreal
When it became obvious that he could not say his line " Because i'm worth it " without laughing
Seriously though i think we need to vary our play not just long ball tactics , but we do need to get better crosses in for Carroll .

Re: Man United or Liverpool??
Why are people banging on about Carroll's best performance?! He didnt even score and had chances to do so. Yes he flicked balls on. But as Nissan states, he was far from great. And lets all be honest here, he cost £35 million quid, the equivalent of having Thierry Henry and Darren Bent up front. Ironically Henry scored straight away on his return and he was not even fit, let alone only having played 30 minutes.
But still, lets do a thread justifying Carroll's price tag.......
Crouch is better at stoke and cost £20 million less.
Ouch.

No he wasn't worth 35 million , but he is now starting to get his confidence so hopefully he will start having more good games .
He will never lose his price tag not even if someone else is bought for more , Andy Carroll didn't set the fee , he's a young lad who has moved away from his family and has struggled lets hope its now behind him and people start talking about football rather then money.

Clearly he's not worth £35m, the question is why they paid that much when they probably could have got him for less than half that amount, and bought someone else into the bargain, or put the money into a forehead extension for Thicko Gerrard.
Don't blame Carrol for being mediocre, blame Liverpool for being rubbish with money.

Re: Man United or Liverpool??
Fair point but Crouch is 31 so how many seasons will Stoke get out of him 4 or 5 at the most whereas Liverpool could have Carroll for the next 10-15 years so 35 million on a young player is no worse than 10-15 million on a 30 year old. Both equate to around 2.5 million per seasond260005p wrote:

Re: Man United or Liverpool??
Part of Carrol's problem is being English. If he'd been from Tunisia or Finland he would be worth about 6m tops, but because he is English he'd been hyped to high heaven.
He'd only played a handful of top flight games at the time too, shear stupidity from Liverpool. If they want rid they'll be lucky to get £10m for him, it's only less of a scandle because they player they sold was Torres, who is stinking the place out at Chelsea, so it makes the move for Carrol less embarassing.
