Re: Weekend Action
Worth saying Simeon Williamson ran 6.64s for the 60m on the 22nd Jan. Leading the UK table so far over the distance...is he finally returning from injury?

Re: Weekend Action
I'd just like to say that in a great weekend's competition the thing that stood out for me was in Southern XC U17W Jessica Judd beaten by Alex Clay (14 secs) who when I looked up the Kent Scools XC result turned out to have been beaten there by 14 secs by a Bobby Clay aged 14! (? younger sister) Wow what a prospect there?

Re: Weekend Action
I saw those results and was kinda intrigued too.
I'm not one to be too pessimistic about stuff like this, but Judd either can't be totally fit or was not full out for that race, but having not being there obviously I don't know.
As for the Kent Schools result. I presume the older one was pacing the younger one or something.
It just seems a bit strange for a 'super prodigy' to be beaten by another girl who in turn was beaten by her own younger sister.

Some great performances from the Aviva Indoor UK Trials & Championships
Kwakye was superb in the women's 60m ( 7.20 )...looking dominant. Great to see Jodie Williams come thorugh in 2nd ( 7.29 ). So much more to come from her...
Excellent performance from Chambers in the mens 60m ( 6.58 ). Good luck to him at the worlds, and the upcoming ruling for the Olympics...he's still Britain's best sprinter, so would be a good thing to have him at the Olympics...
Joe Thomas in the 800m was miles ahead, and looks to be the breathrough athelete, over the men's 800m, that Britain's been desperately looking for...

Re: Weekend Action
I thought the presentation c4 was quite good. Still no live field events but slightly better coverage than BBC gives them. Thankfully less of the chat between presenters which tends to ruin the BBC's efforts.
Nigel Levine, Andi Possi and Jess Ennis (as per usual) were others that performed really well.
Disappointments were Simeon Williamson and Asha Phips (DQ), in the sprints, and mens HJ.

Agree teassoc regarding coverage. Less chat is good ( BBC got too many people on the broadcast team and need to slim it down - including Colin Jackson ).
Thought Jessica Ennis was very good she looks in top shape. She got tough comeptition coming up at London. Who ever takes the Heptathlon title will have earned it...

I will be looking at today's athletics later but that will be something to look forward to seeing.
She has to be aiming, weather permitting, for something between 12:8 and 12:9 in the heptathlon in the Olympics. That will get her very close to the 6900 score that some think will win her the Gold. A typical wet, windy and cold August's day could ruin her chances though in that event.
Read elsewhere that Bleasdale has been jumping over 4:90 with the longer pole in training.

Re: Weekend Action
Got to see the action last night. Looks like an exceptionally good meet from a GB perspective.
Highlights for me were seeing Grabartz attempt a new GB HJ record of 2:39 and Asha Phillip setting a PB in the Womens 60m.
Only real disappointments were Nicola Sanders and all the GB male sprinters. Otherwise PBs galore plus a couple of GB records.
Away from there good PV results from France for Kate Dennison who cleared 4.52 and Steve Lewis with 5.72.

I think Jess has a good chance of runnig 12.8s for the 100m hurdles. She definititely neeeds to get back to jumping 1.90+ in the high jump regularly .
Also, while she broke her indoor PB for the long jump, she has a lot of improvement to come in that event. Looking at her flat speed, personally believe that she can jump 6.60 - may be 6.65. But she needs to commit a little more, and work on technique.
Yesterday was good for Jessica. Some very good perfromances. And she look sgreat too
Agree also with other performances; sprinters, mainly, not good at all, and doesn't bode well.
Really enjoying Grabarz's energy and enthusiasm. He reminds me of Steve Smith...not sure why, other than the obvious High Jump connection
Bleasdale was great too. Continually underscoring the great progress

Re: Weekend Action
excellent from Jess, and in general a pretty handy week-end for Brit athletes. Generally disapointing in the sprints again, but that's not where the medals will be coming from this summer anyway.
Good form from Bleasdale, it's great that she's consistently jumping 4:70 plus (getting into medal territory), and Rogowska is a pretty useful scalp too. Also good that she can feel slightly disapointed despite the result.
Joe Thomas is one I feel who we need to watch out for this year, stringing together quite a few PBs in the 800m.

Bleasdale mentioned that after her 4.87 m indoor performance, the decision was made to start using a longer pole and it's taking her a little while to get used to.

Re: Weekend Action
First outdoor marks from the winter throws event at Loughborough really encouraging for GB field event fans.
Sophie Hitchon has become the first British woman to throw over 70m in the hammer with 70.40m. Whilst Alex Smith threw PB of 75.64m in the men's event.
Also Goldie Sayers threw over 62m whilst Mervyn Luckwell was just under 80m (79.70) in the Javelin.
B qualification marks don't count though until April 1.
A few days earlier Steve Lewis jumped PB of 5.77 in the PV at an indoor meeeting in Dessau.

Not weekend yet but start of worlds indoor...
Disappointment for Jess Ennis. Good hurdles and shot, but average high jump, and poor long jump. She just needed to be reasonable in these latter two and she would have the title. But she'll know that - and at least, there'll be no danger of complacency going into the Olympics...
Good luck Jess for the Olympics - rooting for you...

Re: Weekend Action
on the positive side for Jess, she still forced Dobrynska to break the world record to win, despite two pretty ordinary events. LJ was especially disappointing, and is still I feel an event where she probably should be doing better (given her speed).
Good morning for GB, Osagie doing very well to go through to the 800m final, though Thomas missed out. Proctor broke the British record again in the LJ qualifying with 6.86 (second longest and one of the only two automatic qualifiers). The British 4x400 quartet won their semi (easily the toughest of the two) to qualify for the final. Grabbaz's second time clearance of 2.29 was enough to get him through to the HJ final. Oni could only manage 2.22 so is out. Lastly, the two young female sprinters, Jodie Williams and Asha Philip, could only finish third of their heats. Though it was enough to get through as fastest losers for both of them, they'll need to improve to progress further.
Actually, that was a very good morning for team GB really, Oni the only disappointment, and some nice surprises in there.

Re: Weekend Action
More pleasant surprises than disappointments.
You can blame Isabre for Jess's loss in form yesterday - on his site he had her already cloaked in gold after the shot put
Soni and Joe Thomas were disappointments, and the sprint girls seem a little under par this morning.
Grabartz, Proctor and men's 4 X 400 did well.
Overall an up and down meeting so far, a bit like last year's worlds in Daegu.
A lot to look forward to later though.

Going to be tough for Chambers in the final - but he's at least there...and you got to b e in it to win it [ though realistically, a possible 3rd position awaits without man sausage-ups from either Gatlin or Carter ]

great win for Aldama, well done
Thought it was a slightly odd choice by Lewis to pass at 5.75, but as you say, he's getting there.
Tiffany Porter gets silver behind Sally Pearson, which I think is about the best she could hope for if we're brutally honest (Pearson is untouchable at the moment). She'll be disappointed with the time, but recovered well from a poor start. Incidentally, Ennis's time yesterday would have earned silver out there...

Great run from Sally Pearson in the Women's 60m hurdles. Porter was only ever going to get Silver - but don;t think she'll be too happy with the run specifically. She's much better than that. Bad start - really didn't help. Jess would've come 2nd in that race. Still - well done Porter

got to be happy with the day's work so far, a gold and a silver. A medal for Chambers would round it up nicely, but it'll be tough to beat Gatlin, Kimmons or Carter.

On paper, Chambers'll do well for with 3rd. two years ago, he'd be in for a good shout of the gold. But in recent times, he's changed his training to suit the 100m...

Agree it was a poor start. Seemed to even stumble a little and even sway within his lane when you see the head on camera shot; so not a polished performance. But remarkable he's still in there getting the medals. Come on - British Olympic Association; get him that ticket to the Olympics...even though he won;t need to fly...
He deserves it!!!! he's paid his dues!!!

Lorraine Ugen jumped a wind-assisted 6.83m LJ performance at the weekend in the USA. Only took 3 jumps apparently to allow her to run 11.61 in the 100m.
With Jade Johnson looking to get over the qualifying mark (of 6.75m I think) we could have 3 ladies in the LJ.

Lots of good to great performances this weekend in the US, mainly in the MtSac relays, and by Jess Ennis in the Javelin in the UK (just under 46m).
US GB performances include 66.67m discuss throw by Okoye. Also 44.92 by Rooney in the 400m beating Jeremy Wariner in the process.

Looks very promising - Okye already throwing into 66's [ threw 67.63 las year ]; great performance in javelin from Jess [ if she throws like that at the Olympics - she has a very good chance! ], and Rooney too - good to go sub45 at this stage of the season

Thanks for updates teassoc.
We got some good talent with Balorinwa and Gemili in the sprints.
20.70 into slight headwind for the 200m is very good. We don't too many athletes getting under 20.7 over the course of a season; particularly under the age of 20 and while running into a slight headwind.
Fingers crossed for rest of season

There is also the 18 year old Jamaica based GB guy - Delano Williams - who has recently run 20:75 into a head wind. He was described as 'jogging' at points in that race so his potential is also huge for future Olympics. Probably too early for London but has been quoted as aiming for around 20 seconds in the GB trials, so who knows.

Very good to know! We .been struggling with the sprints for some time. Not enough British ahletes getting under 10.1 over the hundred, or 20.3 even for the 200 [ not that these times are even world class anymore ].
Interesting that Balorinwa and Demili are very similar in age. They will know each a fair degree, coming through the system, and that rivaly could lead these guys to make real ground in next few years.

Reckon he would be on or around the podium if he could jump injury free for once.

Rutherford equalled the UK record of 8:35 yesterday in Chula Vista, California. That was with a wind of +2.0.
Also uncomfirmed reports of Dwain Chambers running 9:97.
BTW Julia Bleasdale's time was a PB by just under 3 minutes. Clearly the best breakthrough performance for somewhile.

Still waiting to hear whether that run of Dwain's is correct.
Apparently he's been wintering well in Kingston, Jamaica and is now a fair bit slimmer. He isn't therefore expected to have quite the explosive start he once had but he'll have better endurance.
