Alex Ferguson part 2 Empty Alex Ferguson part 2

Post by Adam D Fri 03 Feb 2012, 3:41 pm

Following on from my assertion that Sir Alex had lacked ambition in not moving on - https://www.606v2.com/t21269-sir-alex-ferguson - which garnered quite a few responses (as was hoped), I want to throw open another discussion surrounding Sir Alex.

In this day and age, managers are becoming just as expensive as some players to recruit.

baring that in mind, lets assume that Sir Alex was 20 years younger (making him a better prospect from a longevity point of view) and that he was willing to move.

In todays market conditions, how much do you think he is worth.

Please justify your answers (such as - well if Ronaldo went for 80m Euros, Sir Alex must be worth at least half that.....)

Let's hear your thoughts.....

Why would he move?
Just a daft chain of threads assuming everyone's a mercenary.
Perhaps loyalty and commitment to be the best and do the best for one's employer are outdated virtues.

Perhaps you'd also assume every British Army General has his price for going to work in North Korea or Iran?

Well if SAF were 20 years younger it is unlikely that he would have had so much success already so it is a hard question. His reputation would probably be very different from what it is now, so can't really say how much he would be worth.

You are all missing the point.

What I am asking, if he had achieved everything he has but was 20 years younger (people dont generally employ a 70 year old) and was willing to move, how much is he worth.

I am trying to put a price on his talent - not whether he would move or not.

With his track record, what is he worth to another club?
