Arrogance from (some) Fed fans
As you may know I am a Nadal fan. Often you will find me passionately defending Nadal against the malicious hate which I believe he receives from some sections of the forum. However, even though Nadal is my favourite player to watch, I also enjoy watching other players play such as Roger Federer, who I believe is in the top 5 of all time for me.
Nevertheless I must say that although I am a great fan of Nadal I respect that different people will prefer to watch different styles of tennis, and hence not everyone has the same viewpoint. What does disturb me though is that recently a section of the Federer fans on 606v2, not all of them, have arrogantly decided that only Fed fans are true tennis fans and the rest (especially Nadal fans) are anti-tennis, and their view should not be counted.
These are a few examples- unedited:
Stratocumulus yesterday:
'Not at all because tennis is because of Federer. Tennis fans are federer fans. There is no surprise that why any forum is full of federer fans and only some anti tennis fans.'
Emancipator:
'Oh minions The Nadull's fans are mostly teenage girls and middle-aged spinsters; they know nothing about tennis. Most of them had never watched a tennis match prior to 2005. His (Federer's) popularity is only gleaned from the true connoiseurs of tennis'
To be really honest I just find these allegations slightly pathetic and arrogant- I believe different people should be allowed to have different point of views- but still be considered tennis fans.
What do you think? Do you agree with strato that only Fed fans should be considered as real tennis fans. Are all other fans, especially Nadal fans, just anti-tennis. Do you agree? Write your thoughts below
P.S. Of course I realise not all Fed fans have this arrogant attitude, but many do.

What is even more pathetic is that you edited my original post to include the word 'only', which I did not write.

I see you have an issue with difference of opinion, you are even twisting the truth to make others sound bad. Nobody said " all other fans ". Del Potro for instance gets alot of praise from majority of Fed fans!
The reality is, Nadal fans and tennis knowledge is not really...compatible.

Re: Arrogance from (some) Fed fans
I agree whole heartedly with amritia, it is interesting that the fans of Federer differ from the fans of all the other top players. Djoko fans don't attack Nadal and denounce him as a moonballer. Nadal fans don't accuse djokovic of nasty behavior and denounce him as a cheat. Murray fans don't make doping accusations and time wasting threads on Nadal or Djoko. And the fans of these 3 players rarely attack and demean Fed, and when it does happen it is often in retaliation for every 5 or 10 negative comment from a Fed extremist directed at other players and fans there maybe one or two instance of retaliation.
And of course not all Fed fans act this way there are quite few very reasonable ones as well. Certainly, no one is trying to legislate taste or deem that you must like the style or personality of other champions. But it does seem that a vast majority of the venom directed at other great players comes from FEd fans and the majority of that is directed at Nadal.
To their credit, outside of a couple of isolated incidents I have yet to see a nadal fan come out and denounce Djokovic's character or his games, or his reputation. And this after 7 straight painful losses.

Perhaps we should have a summit meeting and maybe then agree on a format which loosely creates subsections of the site titled A) Pro Nadal B) Pro Djokovic C) Pro Bogo, D) Pro Rest of the field E) Others including RF, JM, BB, RL and such players. Let moderators then audit the data between end of season and beginning of AO 2013. It will help standardise and publish the website to the rest of the world. We could have a FB and or G+ extension too. Once a quantum number gets established, we could register on LSE.

Of course emancipator knows the true definition of a tennis fan. Males of course count. But only females over a certain age with the full written consent of a male can have any hope of obtaining the full recognised status of "tennis fan".
Ha ha ha! emancipator. It must pain you so much that those pesky women keep treading on toes in their mistaken belief that they should be recognised as full members of society.

Yes stratocumulus said that- that the forum is divided up into 'Fed fans' and 'anti tennis fans.'Josiah Maiestas wrote:Do you agree with strato that only Fed fans should be considered as real tennis fans. Are all other fans, especially Nadal fans, just anti-tennis. Do you agree?

Re: Arrogance from (some) Fed fans
Everyone on this forum brings something different to the table. If everyone had the same opinions then forums would simply not work.
But at the end of the day, what is written on a forum does not affect you in real life. They are just words on a computer screen. Rather than debating about members it would be better all round if people stuck to debating about tennis.
The tennis section is now our 3rd busiest of all sports and I am working behind the scenes to make the section even more popular. There will be potential new members looking in, so lets make this place attractive for them to join without the little digs at eachother. Cheers.

Noble sentiments Y I Man. However, you will never attract a wide fan base of various players here whilst Rafael Nadal is freely allowed to be called Nadull (shocking lack of respect for a ten time slam winner which goes on here without people being asked to edit it to his true name), people choosing to post almost nothing but entirely anti-Andy Murray posts and people listing unsubstantiated claims of certain players being on drugs. Until these issues are addressed I feel this forum will continue in the same vain.

Re: Arrogance from (some) Fed fans
There used to be a very healthy crowd of Nadal fans with a great deal of energy craig I am sure you remember those days on this site. But the appearance or invasion of a certain segment of unrealistic and bombastic fed fans chased them away. I don't take anything posted that seriously. I support people's right to say silly things. But they should know that if they go down the line of degrading and demeaning other players that they should expect some blowback from opposing fans and that only adds to acrimony of the site.
Either way, I don't want them to be censored from above, although I would like for them to possibly use some more fairness and objectivity when discussing players they might not like.

Sports people get called different names all the time on here, cant really control it unfortunately. Again, cant stop people posting anti-Murray articles, its up to the members to debate or ignore.
Accusations of players on drugs is a different matter though. We cant have libellous posts on v2. If there are any, please report them using the report feature, or PM myself or LF with a link and we'll sort it.

Re: Arrogance from (some) Fed fans
Yes sportsman get called different names but presumably you mean nicknames and not downright derogatory names? And see what you are saying about anti-Murray or any other player posts but surely by allowing such posts freely is not going to endear fans of that mocked player to want to join if you see what I mean. It is defeating the cause.

We dont sensor opinions Craig. The articles in the section so far have not stopped the section being the 3rd busiest in the forum. I understand where you are coming from though.

Re: Arrogance from (some) Fed fans
Although it is not possible to stop someone from using the label Nadull, or bemoaning the physical aspects of the game, one should not allow blatant misogyny. Anyone trying to justify misogyny on these boards as high jinxs from testosterone fuelled young males, act as those that state "she had it coming to her" dressed up like that. Libellous statements should also be avoided.

Re: Arrogance from (some) Fed fans
I don't understand 2 things:
1. Fed fans fighting with Nadal/Djoko fans, when everyone knows that Fed is on another Galaxy altogether. Even Nadal/Djoko/(insert your GOAT here) agree Fed is the best ever.
2. Djoko/Nadal fans fighting with Fed fans when everyone knows that Fed is on another Galaxy altogether. Even Nadal/Djoko/(insert your GOAT here) agree Fed is the best ever.
Oh wait...i think this is 1 thing I don't understand, so not 2.
So Fed fans, stop arguing/taking the bait/enjoying fighting with a couple of Nadal/Djoko fans that are here on mission to spam and overrun the board.
Or...hell let the war continue!!!

Does defending Nadal against malicious hatahs seem like spamming to you.Jahu wrote:

I don't agree that only Fed fans are real tennis Fans.
The proper sentence should be: Fed fans are real tennis fans because Fed
plays real tennis.
True story this one.
p.s Amritia, you got to admit that every other post of you on all threads is some repetitive bashing of Fed with some silly argument. If you can't beat them, join them.

Re: Arrogance from (some) Fed fans
Interesting, I don't find people who reign triumphalistic in support of the greatest modern player in the game's history while taking the opportunity to continually attack other players' characters or their game, as quote "real tennis fans". Bullies maybe, frontrunners certainly; but real tennis fans not so much.
See while Fed is not nearly my favorite player, and I have issue with many of his fans, I still possess enough fairness to acknowledge his greatness. Something that maybe you guys would try, giving a little respect may earn you respect.

Re: Arrogance from (some) Fed fans
That's nonsense. I believe Fed is a great player, one of the greatest of all time. I also believe that the competition in tennis is currently higher than it has been in a long time and it is a Golden Era, something which Fed himself said.Jahu wrote:I don't agree that only Fed fans are real tennis Fans.
