The Official 606v2 Superbowl Thread
First topic message reminder :
Probably a bit late, but here it is! The ChatBox will be up for the entire game.
I, for one, am having a small gathering at my place consisting of a nice spicy chilli, plenty of beer and lots of banter.
So here we go, discuss the game, the injuries, the banter and the fallout right here.
What are your plans for the big night?

Another close match between them. So close on the knock down at the very end.

I don't think anyone had a really strong case for MVP.
I think if Nicks had a TD he would have had a great shout for it with 10 catches for 109 yards.

I think Justin Tuck should have been MVP. He was there at crucial points for the Giants and really stepped up.

The Pats were very un new england like. Penalties cost us big time. The fumble we recovered but we had 12 men on the field. Ninkovich jumping offside on a incomplete 3rd down which would have given us the ball near midfield with the score 17-12. Then the Wr's Welker and Branch just let Brady down big time in those last two drives. Welker on that catch that would have all but ended the game and then Branch drops two crucial catches. One after the Welker drop that was hard but makeable and then one at the start of the final drive which would have been for 20+ yards. Rant Over

Also well played to the Giants but they had all the luck in that game. I could tell from the way the ball bounced on the first punt which resulted in the next play being the safety. It ain't too often the ball comes out 3 times and you recover it three times. The ball sometimes doesn't bounce your way and that was literally the case for the pats yesterday

Re: The Official 606v2 Superbowl Thread
I think the Giants have benefited from their run in over the past few weeks in that they have had competitive games every week from the conclusion of the regular season and through the play offs whereas many of the fancier teams had already qualified for the play offs and some have had bye weeks too.
Having to be 'on their game' each week surely benefits teams more than having a two week break?
I also think that the Giants have probably got a better balanced team between their offence and defence whereas the other top teams have relied solely on a good offence (Patriots, Saints, Packers) or a good defence (Ravens, 49ers).

I think you have hit the nail on the head.
Perhaps Defense doesn't win championships on its own anymore, but it still helps!

Re: The Official 606v2 Superbowl Thread
Giants were lucky with the bounce of the ball 2 games in a row. That's how it goes.
I think the defense wins championships mantra still holds - if you can't stop the oppositions passing attack, you probably won't win. The Pats did a pretty good job of containing the Giants running attack, but apart from a couple of good plays, their DB's were distinctly average. Something tells me the Ravens wouldn't have allowed the Giants receivers as much opportunity.
I don't think there's anything in the argument that teams lose momentum with the extra weeks rest. The Patriots did OK with it. I think they looked a the stats of teams getting to the SB after a round 1 bye and there's nothing in it. Reckon its more about the coaches preparing them than anything else.
