If people know it's Rooney's horse, they bet on it regardless of how good it is. Therefore, the price is artificially low.
If I owned a horse, I would be betting on it and want the price as high as possible to get as much money back as possible.
I don't give two hoots whether a bookies makes profit from other punters. I just care about my returns being as high as possible.

You miss the point.
Rooney will make more money from the horse finishing in good positions rarther then betting on it himself.

If a horse wins the grand national at say 8/1 how much money do you think the owner will have to stake to make what he would actually win in prize money?

There is no need to, a good winner of a horse will make poopie loads for the owner.
Also why bet on your own horse when you will be investigated for allsorts such as abuse or drug us along with many other pitfalls. This then can go a lot deep into the world of racing and "cheaters". There was something with Henderson betting on himself to train 0 winners at Cheltenham one year and somehow he got away with it.

He would get all of those winnings etc regardless of who bets on it and what the price is. The betting ring will have no influence on how successful the horse is.

Do you really think that owners do not bet big on their own horses????? That is a bit niaive. The staff around the horse, especially if they have a good horse, first time out when no one else knows how good it is, will all punt on it and if they can keep the price high, they win more. Common practice.

Trainers is one thing like Henderson, especially betting on a negative result, but betting on your own horse is common practice and not actually illegal or frowned upon. JP McManus is one of the biggest gamblers around, putting 6 figure sums on his horses. He has been known to get double the prize money available from his actual bets.

And Horses are given random drugs tests anyway

But the image of someone being whacked in the face when they're eating too slowly made me chuckle. A good analogy, but also hilarious...

OK Yeah I can see the funny side too of somone getting whipped while they are eating.

Oh my days Saint Nicholas you say I take everything literally so do you I know these horses are worth silly money and thier owners/trainers would not jeopardise thier health but I just think its a bit wrong making horses run. Why is it legal for horses to run? because they make a loads of money it's a billion pound industry just like fags are legal cause they make money even though they kill people.

30 minutes max, normally 2 or 3 days a week. Then an hour in the equine pool a couple of times a week.

I would take that over 8 hour days, 5 days a week

An I rather be allowed to play around in the fields all day eating apples, free will to run where I want when I want, horses don't have to work they're animals.

It's more sensible to ban alcohol and fags.

Buying players from releases and then sharing your money you get from them from lawyers with other managers is now allowed and if we feel that you are just buying players from releases to make money from you may not get a lawyers from them. .

It was only a joke between myself and Marky, so no that is not what we are doing anyway.

I brought players from releases because:

1. I had £275,000 to spend. That is going to get me nothing via in house transfers or TP's
2. I had a threadbare squad and I wanted to decrease the chances of one of my first timers getting an injury.
3. Soberón is a good young CB whose value has gone up since being a regular for Racing Santander. Verre is on the fringes of the Roma first team, and is also a good young CM whose value has gone up recently.
4. For a combined total of £200K, I think I got two good deals for two players that someone obviously didn't need in their squad.

Anything else?

No not cars we need them but we don't need fags and alcohol. More people may die from car accidents but I would say more people use cars then people smoke in this country.

(I wouldn't ban any of these things just saying)

People drinking alcohol kill themselves. People driving cars stupidly kill themselves and others. People smoking kill themselves, and through passive smoking, kill others.

They have put measures in place to stop smoking in public places to limit passive exposure.

It is your free choice to smoke/drive stupidly and kill yourself, but in a car you are at the mercy of those around you far more these days than the risk from being near smokers.

There no right or wrong, its opinions and mine was Rooney wouldnt need to bet on Switcharooney as he can make money off the horse anyway. IF it turns out to be a good/great nag then there would be a reason to bet.

I was only jesting on the car issue.

I stick by my second point though, people seem to be the root cause of all problems, so I think all people should be banned. Barring those on the Furious League. Except CF, he is too dangerous not to be banned.

I realise that mate.

It all stemmed from my statement that I would keep it as quiet as possible to get my returns as high as possible and you said why?

I would have thought it was a definate that Rooney will have a punt on that horse the first time it runs, so regardless of how much money I have, I would rather win at 6/1 than 4/1. If I offered you £100,000 or £100,100 with no strings attached and no other factors, you would take bigger amount wouldn't you?

As I put on the Malaga page;

Publicly joking with the idea of doing such a thing?

Do I get a warning for joking the other day that if King Beer doesn't submit his tactics for our match that i'll share my win bonus with him?

It should be a warning for accidental rule breaking, punishment for deliberate rule breaking. But no warnings at all for what we might be planning to do, that's just bizarre.

So you wanted to accuse us, before actually talking to us about it?!

It was a throw-a-away remark I made last night.

I love it Nick that you say you will fine me, but when people don't submit tactics, or submit them late, give feedback or don't make sure their transfer listings are up-to-date.....you are no-where to be seen.

I make sure I submit tactics in time, give good feedback and that everything is in order on my home page. You know.....like important stuff!

And now I get this. It is pathetic.

What's wrong with wanting to make money from releases?

Jeez, if people mess up and release someone that then becomes half decent, then one person's loss is anothers gain.

Take Saha, someone released him, i paid £1.85m and sold him for £8m.

YI sold Rodrigo for £1.85m, the guy's got nearly 20 goals and been linked with big money moves and is worth around £8m in real life.

Page 3 on furious banter......remark at the bottom. Macs replied two posts after and mentioned NOTHING about what I said.
Rumours are fantastic when people don't get their facts straight.

This was in regards to a conversation you had yesterday to my knowledge.

You will have to find a new Malaga manager now.
No worries. I had already copied your team page as I figured you would stomp your feet. The option is yours, stome your feet or just move on and carry on

Sorry Twist, I think the post came across a bit heavy handed.

I think a simple, please don't do it would have been sufficient to start with

I am not a child and I won't be treated like one. Nor act like one. I am not going to delete the homepage, and never was going to.

Yeah I am stomping my feet. Straight out the door. Good luck everyone with your teams.

Sorry about that Twist.

I can understand your perspective and accept it, albeit think it's a shame, especially given your finally breaking through the transfer brick wall that you had been banging your head against.

I would welcome you back straight away if you changed your mind

Agreed so thats why I said "The option is yours, stome your feet or just move on and carry on" (you know that a quote as it still has my spelling mistake in haha).

TwisT, your getting in a Twist (i couldnt help it hehe) the choice it totaly yours. You can either carry on with your team who you were actualy starting to do well with or if your not enjoying it then move on.
When the time comes to start a fresh league we will give you a shout.

I think I will leave it thanks.

Point is I was enjoying it (albeit with a slight lack of enthusiasm) until an hour ago. Can anyone not see why that has changed????

Nick, I think you were overzealous and completely bang out of order considering not once did you actually talk to me or Marky about it. There are still teams on here who, for instance, don't have all their transfers listed properly. Players who still don't get their tactics in on time or give their results. I have never seen you once post on their homepage giving a "warning". Especially when who would think it is important stuff in regards to the league.

Then you tell me to be quiet? Sorry but who the flying doodah do you think you are?!

I have no problems with walking out and thank you for remembering me for season 3. Like I said good luck for the rest of the season. I see no reason to post anymore here, as I simply don't want to cause anymore trouble. So I will leave it at that thank you. OK

Twist - take 30 minutes and a breather, and then please reconsider.

I don't want you to quit because of this and I am sure that 99% of the rest of the managers feel them same.

Don't quit because of Nick, stay because of all the other managers. If a manager quit every time Nick flew off the handle, he would be in a league on his own

Twist, there is 3/4 of us and its very hard to track every going on within this league. You question me but no other, so beit. What you were looking to do would be considered a serious rule break. So why should you be given the same leeway like a manager who forgot tactics where the opposition is happy for them to submit late?

Your so mad because you got caught out. handle it.

Would managers like a fresh start with teams and full sqauds?? or do you wish to carry on with this season??

Feedback is required as my point of view is its become a bit stale with tp's and values for players in the league going through the roof etc. Think this has showed in a lot of people including me getting fustrated and having pointless arguments.

Opinions please
