Glasgow sign Tongan Viliami Ma'afu.
Does this mean Johnnie Beattie will be moving on at the end of the season?

I would assume so. No room for this guy, Beattie and Wilson in the squad. Just looking at this guy on the Blues website, looks a decent signing. Apparently he's a destructive ball carrier (and he'll be available during the internationals), so it makes good sense, and he'll compliment Harley and Barclay (or Fusaro) well.

Well done to Sean Lineen - he seems delighted and he should be.
Talei has been a huge success at Reekie and on paper this guy has a much better CV. A two year deal is good for a 29 year old who already has international allegiances too.
And yes, this is surely curtains for JB2 - whom I hope heads off to France, finds a hot French girl, good food and drink, a bit of sun and rediscovers his love of trying hard at the game.

And they've followed it up by adding Falcons' Tim Swinson: http://www.scottishrugby.org/content/view/2562/2/

I saw Ma'afu play a few times for the Blues and he was very impressive
The Scottish sides are making some good signings. Now where's all this money coming from? or is it just smart recruitment

New high heid yins at the SRU have realised you need to spend a few quid to get a few quid back. Also the extra HEC money Edinburgh's getting is split between ER and Glasgow.

Tim Swinson is a smart signing Gowales. He wont be expensive...will be a good signing.

Where did you hear that about the HC cash?

I recall reading in the Scotsman, that the SRU divides all tournament winnings between the two pro clubs regardless of which club earned it. That goes for both the HC and the Rabo 12.

Nice, couple that with the savings for next year with Glasgow moving away from Firhill. Don't know how much Scotstoun will cost them but they're paying 1m a year at the moment.

They are paying nowhere near £1m a year at Firhill, but there will be a saving from the Scotstoun move.
