Britains oldest boxing champion
Britain now has a record breaking champion to be proud of. Here is an abstract from the Nottingham Evening Post.
Boxing: Mansfield's Steve Ward says he has no plans to retire, despite winning a place in the Guinness Book of Records.
Ward, who beat Peter McJob to retain his EBF Midlands cruiserweight title, is going into the record books as Britain's oldest boxing champion.
"I want the British title next," said Ward. "And why not?
"I may be 54, but I'm fit and I'm not getting hurt. I intend to carry on as long as I am enjoying it.
"But I will not linger on. I will know when to call it a day."
Ward, who drives for a concrete firm in Somercotes, gets up for a run at 3.45am most days and goes to the gym after work.
