Greatest series of all time
Just watched the fighter the other day. When you think of Micky Ward you can't help think about the trilogy with Gatti. I don't consider this the greatest series of fights in history I would Go for Robinson vs La Motta their styles mixed so well and they had 6 fights although the amount is not important to the arguement. I have these fights on DVD and have watched them several times. Their styles mixed so well and La Mottas sheer determination made these fights spectacular. Any other ideas?

Re: Greatest series of all time
In recent times, the Barrera-Morales trilogy was absolutely fantastic, and the three fights between Bowe and Holyfield at Heavyweight are good enough to rival the three shared by Ali and Frazier, for my money.
I've always felt that the Robinson-Fullmer series is underrated, usually because Robinson was past his best by then. But their four fights were always interesting, had some great moments (who can forget that left hook in their second bout) and, had Robinson been a little more fortunate in the third bout (which was scored a draw) he would have edged the series 2-1-1.
Would also have to add Benvenuti-Griffith in to the mix. Two great stylists, always a high level of quality boxing when they fought, and always closely contested bouts.

Recently we've had Roy Jones Jr v Antonio Tarver and Manny Pacquiao v Erik Morales, Marco antonio Barrera v Erik Morales. Azumah Nelson also had at least four matches with Jesse James Leija, and also the Evander Holyfield v Riddick Bowe.

They 'only' fought twice, but I reckon you could throw Louis-Schmeling in there. Two unbelievable performances for the winner in each bout, but in very different ways. Chuck in the social and political issues which surrounded it, and you've got a great series, if we're counting two-fight affairs that is.

Re: Greatest series of all time
Historically, Langford and Wills would surely be in contention, even given that Langford was on the slide by then. They shared a ring fifteen or so times, while Ted ' Kid ' Lewis and Jack Britton's rivalry spread over more than TWENTY fights.
One of my favourites, though, is of a more modern vintage. I've watched the Patterson v Johansson fights, back to back, so often that I've practically burned a hole in the DVD. These fights were competitive, exciting, and everything else required to make classic match ups and fantastic viewing.

Not really a series, but Corrales-Castillo is always worth a watch, particularly the drama in the first one. Proper Rocky type stuff.

Good shout on the Vasquez v Marquez trilogy, absolute wars. as well as Langford against Wills, it was the later stages of Langfords career and sure there would have been easier opponents for Langford to tangle with every other week, he also wasn't shy on meeting McVea or Jeanette numerous times.

Bararra v Morales is a good shout. But Frazier Ali beats all other rivalries. Their names are linked for ever.

Well, it's modern to me, mate.

You can say that again, Galveston. Langford fought Wills eighteen times, McVea fifteen, Jeanette fourteen, Jeff Clark thirteen and Jim Barry twelve: that's seventy-two fights against just five opponents. By modern standards, basically two whole careers crammed in against five men. Incredible, really. Another example of why boxing's history is so much more remarkable and interesting than any other, for my money at least.

You got that right mate. If they had used their speed founded by new training methods and better diets (GM modified cows) they would have moved away from the meteor at great speed.

For entertainment Gatti/Ward is hard to beat but the level they fought at must be considered though which is why it doesn't come too high up in any lists of fight series.
Morales/Barrera is my favourite, two legitimate greats of the game on top form

Exactly chris, he didn't do things by half, he must have been sick of the sight of most them, just wished he could have got another shot at Johnson when Jack held the title, think he could have had the better of him as i feel he was the one who had improved the most since their first meet, would have been a great fight for history whatever the result, they don't make them like that anymore thats for sure.

Re: Greatest series of all time
Leonard vs Duran, two ATGs going head to head. The trilogy includes 'The Brawl in Montreal' and the 'No Mas' fights. Pep vs Saddler also involved two of the greatest fighters to lace up the gloves. No love lost between them at the time. Duran apparently didn't like Leonard either.
Another famous grudge match, Ali vs Frazer. The disagreement seemed to be more on one side. According to a recent documentary, even though both men are now in their 60s, hasn't cooled much. Heavyweight 60s-70's was so rich in talent is rare you get, Foreman vs Frazier, Ali vs Liston/ Norton, etc.
Monzon vs Griffith and Monzon vs Valdez, were exciting and enthralling contests. Brought the best fights out of Monzon certainly. In terms of excitement, Graziano vs Zale were full on engagements.
