I was the first British player to score a goal in European Club football
I was awarded my first International football cap in 2006.

He also turned down the chance to manage Rangers.
PS
The cap is a bit of a red herring [you may have sussed that one out]
In his time they only awarded caps for the Home Internationals.

It's a good question, i'd be inclined tot think he was scottish and played for Hibs as they were the first club weren't they to play in the euorpean cup in the mid/late 50's

Re: Who am I ?
Kwinni has it Eddie Turnbull.
The SFA awarded the 'uncapped' 1958 World Cup squad players belated caps in 2006 when Turnbull was 82.
Kwinni.
I played the odd game with Lawrie Reilly and Ronnie Simpson as a youngster. As far as I remember he did not have big ears, probably more due to the 1950's haircuts!
He was a single figure golfer but Simpson got down to a very low handicap [1 if I remember correctly]

Re: Who am I ?
Doon,
Shot in the dark, but felt it had to be Ormond or Turnbull - I grew up with the Famous Five legend 400(?) miles to the south, with names like Smith, Johnstone and Reilly on sweet cigarette cards!
(And our primary school headmistress was a friend of End Blyton - but hadn't realised she wrote the Famous Five!)
Two things:
1).Just an extension of the Hibs connection, but:
My 22-y-o son who was born in the US and has lived here all his life, but is a footie fan came to me with a trivia question the other day, the answer to which he'd just been listening to on a podcast! Gerry Baker!! I got the answer with a clue, but hadn't realised that he was born in the USA, or that he was the patriarch of such distinguished athletes himself.
2).Missed you in the WGC Fantasy Game - I'm thinking you'd be sitting pretty right now??!!

Re: Who am I ?
Yes
The Fabulous Baker Boys.
Joe played for England and Gerry I think played for the USA.
I used to know Gordon Smith as well, he died a couple of years ago. He owned a pub at Meadowbank called 'The Right Wing' and lived in a beautiful wee cottage overlooking the 8th hole on North Berwick West
The only one I have not met was Eddie Turnbull.
