Daytona 500
The 2012 edition is this Sunday - yes, the day of the Oscar telecast (how does US television fill the time?!)
In the prelims yesterday, Danica Patrick was put into the infield wall.

Re: Daytona 500
Been watching Nascar for last 3 seasons and absolutely love it. Of course I prefer F1 and three years ago I thought the same as everyone else about how **** Nascar is, but once you get into it and get to know the drivers, teams and the tactics used its fascinating + some great racing & crashes. Jimmie Johnson is prob my favourite driver and will interesting too see if he can bounce back in the 48 this season after tony stewart finally ended his five year run as champion. Only downside is how long Nascar is, thats why watching the Sky Sports 1hour highlights is the best viewing.

Looks like the start may be delayed, driers on the track.

I wish F1 had the cameras they have in nascar and indy car... the ability to rotate them is a good feature.

Re: Daytona 500
Well, this was one for the book. A 36-hour rain delay and they still had a nearly full grandstand. About seven or eight yellow flags knocking cars out, beginning on Lap 2 (Danica Patrick just missed getting sandwiched on the infield.) Plus, a Hollywood-worthy crash on Lap 160 forcing a two-hour red-flag delay. Thankfully, no one was hurt.
Aside from the fire footage, the red-flag delay was Twitter's greatest advert with Brad Keselowski showing off his ipad pics of the accident to all the other drivers - and the television cameras showing them playing with it.

Re: Daytona 500
It sounds like it was a bizarre race, especially with the incident with 40 laps to go (no, won't put in any spoilers).
Looking forward to the highlights.

I just dont understand the people who hate on Nascar. Once you get into the sport and get to know the drivers and teams it's a fantastic watch. I'm a big JJ fan so was peed he got hit so early on with a big hit but once again Nascar delivered an epic show and the JPM incident was shocking but hilarious. I still prefer F1 but for overtaking, pure speed and excitement and the odd fireball, Nascar is where it's at.

And Brad Keselowski has brought Nascar into the social media age (let's see F1 top that!)

Re: Daytona 500
Just an update on the current standings within Nascar in the lead up to the final chase.
Driver Pts
Jimmie Johnson 777
Greg Biffle 776
Matt Kenseth 775
D. Earnhardt Jr 760
B. Keselowski 733
M. Truex 728
Clint Bowyer 719
Tony Stewart 716
Kevin Harvick 710

If your missing F1 too bad like me and you missed this weekend's race at Watkins Glen International, then I suggest you watch the highlights on SkySports of this race. Absolutely brilliant racing and a sensational, tense finish.

I love the Watkins Glen and Sonoma races. Looking forward to watching the highlights tonight, it sounded like a great race.
Wish they would put one road course in the Chase.

John / Miz
Do they race at Laguna as well? The sight of a Nascar behemoth coming over the top of the corkscrew must be something to behold.
What's the difference between the Sprint Cup and Nationwide Series cars? I saw some of the Nationwide race from Watkins Glen, and it seems to be largely the same drivers in both series.

Re: Daytona 500
The Nationwide Series began tonight at the legendary Daytona Racetrack, however there was a horrific crash involving multiple cars that entered into the crowd through the catch-fencing.
These Americans will just never learn.........

Further news is that tomorrow's main Sprint Cup Series begins at Daytona where Danica Patrick will be on pole position - first woman ever to achieve this feat. Good Luck

Did you miss "Twittergate" when Lewis Hamilton got into trouble for posting pics of telemetry readouts, around the middle of last season?
Back on topic, I'll be interested to see if they bring in any new spectator safety measures. Particularly disappointed for Danica Patrick, especially after she was taken out in the Nationwide race. Thats one lousy weekend.
