When the harder tougher man lost.
Morning folks - hope you all had a nice weekend. Just a light topic I have been thinking about.
Which fights have you seen where the harder, tougher person lost due to the Queensbury rules. Fights where if the 2 same people met without gloves, the other person would have been beaten to a pulp. A few I thought of:
Marvin Hagler/Sugar Ray Leonard. I think if these two would have fought outside the ring - Leonard would probably have been murdered.
Mike Tyson/Lennox Lewis - maybe a contentious one but think Tyson would have Lewis in fits outside the ring.
Devon Alexander/Marcos Maidana - no question about the toughness of Maidana - would have the beating of Alexander in a street fight.
Can you think of anymore?
Cheers

Valuev/Haye. Not even a glass bottle and a camera tripod would save Haye in that one.

Re: When the harder tougher man lost.
Khan v Peterson or Maidana, think either of those two could do some damage and Khan wouldn't be able to get away with running away so much.
Duran v Leonard, don't see Leonard winning the rematch without QR on his side.
Hatton v Mayweather would be interesting too, Hatton might sneak it...

Is Hatton "hard"? He always seems too jovial to be a real hard man. Tough as hell in the ring, but not what I'd consider as a hard man.

Hahaha! Quality. Think haye's speed may be a factor in that one though.
Agree with the Khan ones - his boxing skill is the sole reason of where he is in boxing.
Mayweather Hatton is a good example - cant make my mind up on that one.

Nigel Benn v Michael Watson 1989
Benn was tough, but he neglected boxing skills altogether and got his head jabbed off then stopped after Watson tucked up well
Marlon Starling v Lloyd Honeyghan 1989
Honeyghan loved a tear up and was a rough type, Starling boxed his ears off and beat him up

Steve Collins vs Sumbu Kalambay/ Reggie Johnson/ Mike McCallum
Collins always seemed a bit unhinged when I was younger and I'd peg him as a proper hard nut outside the ring.

Same here - always thought Collins was hard as nails. Putting on gloves just slowed him down.

The only factor that Haye's speed would have in this is how quick he could run away!! Not an anti-Haye comment, as any person who doesn't do his best Usain Bolt impression when faced with a 7 foot Russian has serious suicidal tendancies!!

Got a feeling that Fernando sneaks a tyre iron into that street brawl and Oscar gets a lumping.

ODLH doesnt strike me as being a tough nut at all! That would be a massacre outside the ring.

That was class when Katsidis shouted what you looking at as they were in the centre of the ring before the fight, hilarious. Katsidis comes across as being a gentleman outside the ring, a brave animal in the ring!.

Firstly, Hi, I'm new
Katsidis fights like an animal, but conducts himself like a true gentleman
Pretty much anyone who Ricky Burns has beaten. Says he's never been in a fight and his life and is addicted to his xbox. One of the nicest guys I've seen in boxing.

Welcome aboard mate...
I remember laughing loud when I read that interview with Burns, when he said something along the lines of "I just like to go home and play my Xbox" stating that he was addicted to it and stuff. You can just picture this World Champion-by-night/nerd by day alter-ego.
Bless him.

Jovial is definitely a good word to sum up Hatton's character, but I get the impression he had a fairly tough upbringing on a rough estate in Stockport and I reckon if you got him to lose his temper and peak his agression he'd be quite a dangerous man (assuming he was in 140lb fight condition, not his current kebab condition).
Floyd's always had a pretty cushy upbringing, as 'ghetto' as he likes to play it sometime, so despite his 'in the pocket' tricks/skills I think if he was totally exposed to rough-house tactics and wasn't afforded any protection he might struggle.

Deary me yes! That would be painful. I can hear the clanging of dustbins down a back alley already...
Got a feeling that Shannon Briggs would probably give Vitali and Lennox a pasting in a street fight too!

Liston would have killed Ali outside the rind. Always felt that Frazier would have done the same to Ali in a street fight.

I reckon Huck might be the Heavyweight champ without boxing rules, he strikes me as a right psycho. No way would Povetkin have won without rules against him.

Chavez v Whitaker, Whitaker throws a jab and breaks his hand on Chavez' head, then Chavez tears into him like a starved tiger into a tethered goat.
Foreman v Young wouldn't be pretty.

Can't agree with Collins beating McCallum outside the ring, he was a tough SOB no doubt but I just think the bodysnatcher was tougher.

Eubank was fighting in the streets as a child. The guy was totally nuts and fearless acording to 'sources'. Plus he was as tough as boots.

Vitali Klitchsko was a kick boxer so in a street fight he would have the edge over both Lewis and Briggs...

not sure about that one, isnt there stories about pacquiao loving a bit of a good old dust up when he was younger. Think theres a story about him having a fight with four guys nd he knocked them all out.
Cotto always strikes me as a rel nice guy and not the type to brawl
