Re: Golf Grips
I tend to think there are two options when buying new grips, a sticky feel or a harder feel.
Sticky (grip comes from softness of rubber) would be something like these;
http://www.gamolagolf.co.uk/acatalog/Golf_Pride_DD2.html
http://www.gamolagolf.co.uk/acatalog/Golf_Pride_Tour_Velvet_Golf_Grips.html
And harder (grip comes from abrasiveness of rubber/cord);
http://www.gamolagolf.co.uk/acatalog/Golf_Pride_Multicompound_Golf_Grips.html
http://www.gamolagolf.co.uk/acatalog/Lamkin_Crossline_Cord_Golf_Grips.html
Although all grips will be different and could offer a combination of both characteristics.
The website in those links is what I have used for ordering new grips since it was recommended by goldwolf.
It is very easy to change your grips yourself as long as you get the right tools.
Use this guide;
http://www.gamolagolf.co.uk/acatalog/DIY-Re-gripping-Guide.html
All the tape and stuff is available on gamola and the rest in your local DIY store.

If you want a new grip on just one club, it's hardly worth doing it yourself. Give it to the pro.

If you go on golf pride's web site, there is a grip selection tool. http://golfpride.com/Grips/GripSelector.aspx

Re: Golf Grips
grips are not a uniform thickness but can make a big difference to your shot shape. Worth bearing in mind.

Super
I have heard that but never really be shown any evidence to back this up?
What is the reasoning behind grip thickness effecting shot shape?

Re: Golf Grips
Thinner grips tend to promote more hand action, and thicker grips suppress hand action. So if you tend to push the ball because your hands don't keep up with your body, then don't have ticker grips fitted.

george,
yes that is the story, but technically why would this be the case?

Re: Golf Grips
Because with thicker grips you're holding the club more in the palm of your hands and there's therefore less torque affecting shaft rotation.
Doesn't make that much difference anyway; far more important things to worry about than a few thou of an inch.

All you need is a Stanley knife, double sided tape, masking tape, some white spirit and a bit of common sense. Easy.

Petrol works better than white spirit.
It's all a bit of a palaver if you are doing one grip. Worth trying if you want to do all your irons, but if there's just one club, hand it to the pro.
Don't do what some guy did a few years ago - did all his irons, got the grips on all absolutely perfectly, then decided to light a cigarette while he admired his handy work.

Steady Jimbo, it wasn't supposed to be an instruction guide (although it's not rocket science is it).
I was just saying it was easy and alluding that you can do it yourself.

Not trying to take sides, but agree with Super or not numbskull is not the word I'd use, he has some highly intelligent points even if I don't always agree, same as yourself Mac I don't always a agree but I'd never say either you or Super were thick and that is in short what a numbskull is!
To the point of how short Supers response was I actually took it as a to the point answer to what's actually needed to carry out the job. A tip I found to be of use in fact.
