Todays media...
I know it's prob not a popular subject, and I will be called a whinger, and told that Englands audience is greater and they deserve more cover etc etc...
But I am sick of reading about the game of the weekend.. England - Ireland!!!!
This is only the championship game, if Wales lose before hand, it is only the championship game if Wales lose badly before hand, so it is only the championship game if Wales allow it to be!
I know how I sound, I k,now it's not particularly dignified, or gracious, but it is really starting to grate on my nerves. Back page, England are roaring to victory, page behind that, England and Ireland thrash it out, page before that interviews with Sl and co, but the half page before that is where we start to talk about the Wales GS.
I know in the grand scheme of things papers sell themselves on much more than the rugby section, but if I was actually asked in the petrol station by an old school freind who I had bumped into, who obviosly has no idea of the sport if I thought England could do it! DUD YOU ARE BLYDI WELSH???!!!
AAAAAaaaaarrrrrrggggghhhhhhh!!!!!
Am I letting the nerves get to me? Am I being pedantic? And can I relax a bit?
Possibly, but in the midst of drowning in a sea of dissertation, and 24 hours before one of the biggest games for... well nearly 6 months, I am starting to lose the plot. I have predicted wales by 20, by 10, by one score, by 1, then France by 1, 3, 7, 10.
And breathe...
Thanks for listening.

Calm yer beans bluesman. May I point out and maybe suggest for the big match build up you read THE WESTERN F ING MAIL!!
Having a quick glance at the back pages of todays s(c)um. Once you get pass the football,F1 and boxing, there's a page on Wales v France. Not a single column inch to be spared for 'the other game'.

Well, by all accounts Wales will win comfortably, so the media is moot on this one.

mmmm You weren't that poster on the old 606 that was having some kind of nervous breakdown before an AI v SA once? You do need some pro help tho..
I do like reading the comments in the westernfail. Talk about nationalistic jingoism. This new plaid leader is being held as some kind of messiah. Shame about her left wing, socialism, femenism and republican background then...

Re: Todays media...
If Wales win, they get the Slam. If they lose, they almost certainly get the Championship......................................
Same as last year. So not more newsworthy or less newsworthy.
But it's a France problem, innit. Wales are playing France for their shot, last year England were playing Ireland. France always kinda dilutes interest in the media because it doesn't matter how much you insult the French, or tell them their weaknesses, or even talk up their strengths - they are neither going to be caring or listening. They are remote. So you're left with a one sided pre-fight weigh in, which doesn't excite the headline writers.

Re: Todays media...
Ireland spoiled the competition by not beating France. If they had they'd have kept the pressure on Wales.
Realistically England have zero chance of overturning the points deficit, where as Ireland would have had an outside chance nicking of the title.

Re: Todays media...
English papers like to talk about the English team.
Welshy papers like to talk about the Welsh team.
So if you dont want to read about the English team, Dont read the English papers. Simples.
Why do England have zero chance of over turning the poinst difference?
Surely it will all depend on how points France beat Wales by. And seeing that the France v Wales game is before the England v Ireland game, well England will know exactuly how many points they will need to beat Ireland by. wont they.

Re: Todays media...
Who cares what the media think. Sports journalism is sensationalist nonsense most of the time. I tell you what i'm going to do.. get up early, have a hearty breakfast with friends, go somewhere and watch all the games, enjoy the day and pray for a grand slam. The papers, irvendale and BBC's slow mo of Farrell's hair flowing in the wind will not put a damper on my day! Just enjoy it my friend

Ireland will have their own mini competition though.
Unlike England, best they can do is 2nd. Motivation enough you might think but not so ........... they also have incentives to end the Championship with most points AND most tries. That should keep them nicely motivated to keep England concentrating for the full 80.

Re: Todays media...
Is Button fastest? Good news, I hadnt realised.
I guess it would grate a bit but as you point out Bluesman, the coverage disparity is justified, if only from a readership demographics perspective.
