AB de Villiers
I was going throguh some south african players and looking at their records when I came upon these statistics which I found uncanningly similar.
AB de Villiers has completed exactly the same number of innings for ODI's as for tests. 123.
Look at the similarites in the performances he has had for SA in these two formats.
Tests
123 innings
Runs scored 5351
Average 49.09
Centuries 13
Fifties 28
ODI's
123 innings
Runs scored 4998
Average 49.00
Centuries 13
Fifties 28
Fielding Tests
Catches 98
Stumpings 1
Fielding ODI's
Catches 99
Stumpings 3
To me he is in the Jonty Rhodes mould, but better. Excellent fielder at point or gulley, he can also play wicket keeper when needed, but it is his ability to increase his strike rate from 54.53 in tests to 93.18 in ODI's with the bat whilst still maintaining the same average that shows what a true great talent he is.
In my opinion he is very adept at accumulating runs early in his innings, but yet maintain a good strike rate, he can take the responsibility when he bats with the tail enders, but yet he doesn't over protect them. He allows them opportunity to play and keeps them calm, and when the situation is needed he as the ability to hit boundaries or go over the top.
What do you guys think?

Re: AB de Villiers
he is a very good player, vital to the side in limited overs cricket obviously, and in tests he is a very good batsman.

Re: AB de Villiers
For me de Villiers has been someone who is around all the time. I hadn't paid him that much attention, but it is interesting to see quite how similar and impressive his test and ODIs figures are...

And he's only 28 - so plenty of time to add to his impressive "records" of all kinds....
