Djokovic 2012 = Wilander 1988, mark my words
In 1988 Wilander played a 5 setter in AO SF and then again in the the finals. Just like Nole.
In 1988 Wilander won:
AO
Miami
RG
Cincinnati
US Open
Mark my words: In 2012 Nole will win:
AO
Miami
RG
Cincinnati
US Open

In 1988 Mats also won Palermo on clay so lets give Nole a title on clay in Italy, that would be Rome.

Wilander lost no finals in 1988 so I say Nole will win all the finals he reaches in 2012.

How did 2011/1987 compare for these two? There were some striking parallels iirc, but would you mind reposting the comparison?

In 1988 Edberg won Wimbledon as well as Rotterdam and Basel.
I say Federer in 2012 will be the Edberg of 1988. But with more titles than Edberg in 1988.
Federer to win Wimbledon in 2012. He already won Rotterdam, Dubai and IW so he is doing better than Edberg in 1988.

Wilander was very proud of his achievement of winning three GS in one year and was only too delighted that his name cropped up when Fed repeated the feat for the first time in 04.
Course since then Fed (twice more) and Nole and Rafa have all done the three-in-a-season Slams feat, and yet it had not been done at all for 16 years at one point. Not sure whether this denotes strength at the top now or the dreaded wee keira(s).

I'm comparing 1988 with 2012. No 2 players have identical careers every season.

Bottom line:
2012
AO - Nole
FO - Nole
Wimbledon - Federer
US Open - Nole

erm yeah OBVIOUSLY no 2 players have identical careers every season.
I was just curious to see how their seasons compared for 2011 / 1987. I thought there was some comparison done and there were similarities?

See the reason why I'm comparing 1988 with 2012 is because 1988 was the last time a player won a 5 setter in the SF and then a 5 setter in the finals of the AO and then went on to win the FO.
Nadal also won a 5 setter in the SF and then a 5 setter in the finals of the AO but he failed to win FO in 2009.
Since the AO moved to HC in 1988 only 3 players won a 5 setter in the SF and then a 5 setter in the finals:
Wilander 1988
Nadal 2009
Djokovic 2012

Djoko doesn't want to repeat in 2012 what happened to Rafa in 09. Rafa's AO heroics plus a four-hour battle on clay with Djoko a few weeks later practically finished him off. Rafa, for the only time, surrendered his French crown and then had to pull out of Wimbledon.

I imagine the OP has bumped the thread as an opportunity to bask in the glory of his success.
So let's look at precisely what that success has been so far .....
Ah yes .... he correctly predicted that the World's Number One tennis player would win a tennis tournament in Miami (and one from which the World's Number two player happened to withdraw just before the SF)
Congratulations are in order : It's simply inconceivable that any of we less perceptive followers of the sport could possibly have had the presence of mind to forecast such a bizarre occurrence
A rare skill indeed .........

I don't mind Jersey blowing his own trumpet. I'll even play the drums to accompany him. He has put up his predictions for all to see, highlighting an interesting parallel. It will either come true or it won't. If predicting the future was easy the bookies would be out of a business.

well Jersey has taken a lot of stick, so its time to give him some credit for very nice parallel theory of lifelines.
Jersey.
Jersey so Djoko not gonna win Madrid then? so who gonna win it? Rafa? or do u take the odds out to predict Roger?

If you're prediction for this week is correct, you'll be 100% right half way through your predictions, not bad @ all. Well shall see....
Hopefully you're right, because if you are, Fed is highly likely to be seeded #2 for RG.

luciusmann - you must have forgotten that he cleverly 'predicted' the AO Winner in late March - several weeks after the tournament had finished
One right so far.
(personally I can't see past Rafa for Rome .....)

Ah, in that case, one isn't so impressive. If he gets the Rome winner right that's decent and RG, well that would be quite something.
