Yes he was exceptional. But quite a resounding win in a poll by an English newspaper website that is not at all popular in Wales. Very Surprised.

For me it would be between Lydiate, Cuthbert and Gray.
For me, those three players were the standouts this tournement but Lydiate was everywhere and gets my nod.

We are both to late for the vote.eirebilly wrote:For me it would be between Lydiate, Cuthbert and Gray.

The reason I posted it was that it makes me very proud to read nice things by rugby fans from outside of Wales.
I have had Kiwis congratulating us on the Welsh performance at the RWC, stating how they were glad they had to play France in the final and not Wales and polls that are not voted on by Welsh people recognising one of our better players for the hard word he has performed on the field.

Look it had to be a Welsh player who won but I think theres a certain " last game" factor in the amount of the vote Lydiate got.
Theres many of us who feel Halfpennys overall contribution through all 5 weeks was greater. Hes not a cointroversial choice by any stretch, Im just surprissed by the massive amount of votes he seems to have attracted.
Halfpenny won the 606v2 poll for Wales player of the torunament didnt he?

I voted for Lydiate because of his overall efforts in the 6N. The last match saw him give the best individual performance of the 6N which has swung alot of votes. No-one can begrudge him the award though.

I kinda agree with Mr Seabiscuit that whilst Lydiate played bl00dy well in the 5 or 4? (did he miss one game?) games, quite a few of us in Scotland thought that 1/2p but even more effective was Jon Davies who was as awesome in defence as he was destructive in attack
Certainly thought JD was you best overall player

I think there are too often too many unsung heros in a good rugby side, this was Lydiate's day and I am sure there will be plenty more to come for other young guys like Halfpenny and Jon Davies who are both also worthy calls.
In the 606V2 i vote for Davies, who i think has been essentially part of everything that is good about the Welsh attack and defence. But it is hard to justify one players fantastic performance and its rightful worth over anothers when so many do so much.
