Morales Garcia Scoring (spoilers)
After a hard fought, evenly matched contest, the esteemed judges scored this bout 117-110, 116-112, 118-109 UD in favour of Garcia. I thought it was a narrow victory for Morales..The question is: Was this Erik's 'punishment' from the sanctioning bodies for not making weight?? discuss....

Good grief. I had Garcia winning clearly. Maybe you were looking at the fight through sympathetic eyes. Either than or you're Mexican from Tijuana.

Re: Morales Garcia Scoring (spoilers)
Scoring was a little wide but couldnt see how Morales won that fight. I had it 116-113 for Garcia.
Watt and Halling were a little generous towards Morales in my view. Anything good he did was magnified while all Garcias good work was played down. Interestingly enough, the highlights in betwen rounds seemed to focus mainly on clips of Garcia doing well which was in contrast to the commentry on Sky. But to be fair to Watt he said the scoring was generous for Garcia but the right man won in the end which was largely how I saw it.

I had Erik winning narrowly - I half expected Garcia to take it due to his momentum during the latter stages, but I can't see how the judges scored it so widely in his favour..

Work rate as well as cleaner punching in almost every round might have done that.

Shockingly lopsided scorecards in my humble opinion...

Was possibly out by a round or two but a fairly comfortable win for Garcia in truth.

Re: Morales Garcia Scoring (spoilers)
I had it 115-112 Garcia. I really wasnt impressed by him though. He has talent, but you could see morales was slowing with every round but he didn't apply any pressure. He threw good body shots, but will ignore the body the next round, the attack it the next round then ignore it. If he sustained a real attack he would have stopped him. He looked heavy handed but could have got a KO sending a real message to the top guys in the division. Didn't throw a ton of punches but couldn't string combo's and looked fatigued at time. He was the puncher, he could have walked through him.

Scorecards were way too wide - I had Garcia winning a fairly narrow victory. morales snuck most of the early rounds IMO but Garcia came on later andobviously looked much better at the end. Don't rate Garcia highly tbh, decent but not great. The scores were unfair, they treeted Morales like a stepping stone, pass the torch type fight.

Did he 'pay the price' for not making weight?

By losing a fight almost everyone thought he lost?

I don't quite see how that would quite constitutes paying the price for the weigh in when he had no real claim to be the winner?

Re: Morales Garcia Scoring (spoilers)
Possibly, they wide cards could be interpretted as evidence Morales was predestined to lose this. But I think the large majority of people who saw the fight felt Garcia was good for the win regardless. Which would really make it a moot point.
Would also have to say that it was fairly shoddy for Morales not to make the weight in the first place, especially as he came in looking like he could afford to lose at least 5/6 pounds without struggling. That and the fact he was happy to surrender the belt on the scales makes one think he wasnt really treated this with the utmost seriousness. He performed well enough all things considere and its blatantly obvious he would have far too much for Garcia at his best. But I cant imagine hes training too hard these days as he looks like hes a division above where he should be.

Morales as a mexican legend fighting for the WBC title there is next to no chance of anything untoward happening.

No chance of any poor, inaccurate or biased scoring then?

I am just saying, he lost. But the 118-109 and the 117-110 were far too wide. That is all.

Not in a WBC fight there isn't.

understatement of the day that manos, they were so far up morrales rear end im suprised we could hear them commentate!! after hearing them complain about kirkland fight all the way through aswell, how dare a fighter dare to spoil the bigger punching fighter! watt was complaining that its not what the fans want to see, ref should have stepped in but its not up to the opppstion to entertain the fans. he was there to win and winning he was before the ref showed his incompetence even more
no problems with the scoring in this had garcia winning more than morrales. and given the knock down dont see giving garcia it by 5/6 rounds is too bad.

The scores seemed too wide to me but they had the right man winning so for once we're not screaming robbery.
fwiw I had (I think) 114-112

Re: Morales Garcia Scoring (spoilers)
I think Morales looked better because he was throwing 3 punch combos, you'd have to question how many of them landed though. Personally it was the right result, Morales should call time here as well.
Garcia looked really tense in the first few rounds as well, Watt summed it up perfectly when he said he knew he was in with a legend and it was affecting his work.

Couldnt agree more. Morales was landline nice combos every now and again for the first 3-5 rounds. Soon as Garcia woke up though, he seemed to land cleaner shots.
I had it 115-114 Garcia.
Not sure why the judges scored so highly.
