Frankel v Black Caviar? Empty Frankel v Black Caviar?

Post by Eyetoldyouso Thu 05 Apr 2012, 11:45 am

I read that Quipco are prepared to put £1m up for the Sussex Stakes (1m at Goodwood) to entice Frankel & Black Caviar to take each other on.
These are the top 2 rated horses on the planet but I fear that they will never meet. Black Caviar although unbeaten in 19 starts is basically a 5 - 6 furlong horse and has never run a mile whereas Frankel to date is a miler but may go up to 10 furlongs this year.
Black Caviar is expected to run in the Diamond Jubilee (6f) at Royal Ascot which will give us a chance to see this Australian wonderhorse (should it be wondermare? ) in the flesh over her best distance.
Although I think that Frankel could possibly run 7 furlongs, Black Caviar is unlikely to run over the mile. So it seems to me that they will never meet.

Black Caviar lacks the turn of foot that Frankel has, I wouldnt be surprised if they never race together as it would be an easy win for Frankel and make Black Caviar look average in comparison.

Put it this way, BC owners would be more unwilling to enter a race with Frankel than the owners of Frankel.

Black Caviar doesnt need Frankel and Frankel doesnt need Black Caviar, they are total chalk and cheese individuals with totally different agendas. She is an out and out speedball, best over 6f,he is a monsterous galloper whos looking to go down the 10f route. Is there any common ground for a so called match? No.Why would Peter Moody put the mare out of her comfort zone by going 8f at Goodwood? Why would Henry Cecil put Frankel back over a sharp 8f having spent all last season trying to get him to settle so a 10f campaign can be planned for this? There is no apparent reason for any of the above to come to fruition, its pie in the sky press talk. Both animals are superstars in their own right and as racing fans we will have the pleasure of seeing them grace the turf in this country over the Summer months, lets enjoy that for what it is and no go on some tub thumping quest for a match that just isnt going to happen.

That is total rot. BC is much quicker than Frankel over 6f; that's because she is an out & out sprinter.

I agree completely with racingnut. They will never meet because they don't run over the same distances.

Is Black Caviar being retired after today's win? Heard something about it not being right?

1545 Diamond Jubilee Stakes six furlongs
1625 Wokingham Stakes six furlongs

The winner of the Wokingham recorded a time about 0.28 seconds faster than Black Caviar. The jockey of Black Caviar, used to riding on flat circuits on good ground, said he undestimated how "difficult" the Ascot course was - it is not "flat" and the ground was softish - and said he might have over-worked her getting to the front and that was the reason why he allowed the horse to slow down (he said her engine went) - but he didn't realise how close the other horses were - so tried getting her going again.

Horses for courses etc - there seems to have been a number of reasons for Black Caviars relatively poor performance - but she still won. Last years winner lost at the beginning - didn't get out of the stall properly - the jockey was distraught saying he was certain his horse would have won if it wasn't for his shocking start.

BBC wrote:She will now return home, rather than competing in the July Cup at Newmarket - where she has been stabled during her time in the UK.

"We'll get her home now and it's all about looking after her," added Moody.

"She's never let us down, but she is a six-year-old and isn't going to improve."

It seems like a knee-jerk reaction from the trainer - it is said they will put her on a plane back to Australia later today (!).
