Tommy Bowe out for the remainder of the season.
Tommy Bowe will be sitting out the remainder of the current season due to a medical issue. From the Ospreys website:
Having discovered he was suffering from high blood pressure earlier this year, the Irish wing has been put through a number of medical tests to identify the cause of the problem. These tests have shown that he has, in the past, suffered a haematoma that is pushing into his left kidney, with further tests indicating that this is the reason for the raised blood pressure.
After considerable consultation with specialists in both Ireland and Wales, Tommy has opted to go down the route of surgical removal of the haematoma in an effort to solve the problem. He is being operated on in Ireland today, before returning to Wales post-op to convalesce. Because of the surgery, he will not be able to play any further part for the Ospreys this season, ahead of his return to Ulster for next season.
Recovery time post-operation is unclear, but he could be sidelined for up to four months.
Tommy Bowe commented:
"Having confirmed my move to Ulster during the Six Nations I was really looking forward to returning to the Liberty Stadium for the end of season run-in, to help the Ospreys towards hopefully another league title, and also, to say a big thank you to the region's incredible fans for all the support they've given me over the last four years.
"Obviously, this news unfortunately means that I won't get to wear the Ospreys shirt again, but it's important that I get this problem sorted as soon as possible. Hopefully, the Ospreys will have a home semi-final and final in May so that I can still get down to the Liberty to say farewell to the supporters."
Bad timing, but his health is the most important thing. I just wish him the very best and hope he makes a full recovery for next season.

Me too Dodger - I just want him to make a full recovery. I did wonder why he wasn't playing for the O's after the Six Nations - now we know.

Hopefully we'll still see him knocking about Rodders before he heads across the Irish pond. First and foremost is that he gets better and doesn't have any long-term complications. Hopefully he'll be ready to start the new season. Can't see him making the Irish summer tours, mind.

Good point about the tours.
I'd rather he sat it out and got himself right Cari. Ireland have plenty of talent there and guys like Zebo and Kearney JR wll benefit from the tour more than Bowe. Trimble, Fitzgerald and Earls have bags of experience too.
He's shown glimpses of class over the past while but hasn't quite hit top form. Hopefully this OP will sort him out and he'll be on fire next season for Ulster, Ireland and hopefully the Lions too.

That's very true about other players benefitting from the tour more than T. There are a few who could really do with the experience of playing the ABs away. T. has done that already, so it wouldn't be anything new for him. Also, if he was pushed into going on tour it could hamper his recovery.
The article above implies that going for an operation was a long thought about decision which he's just had to make, and I guess now is the best time for him to have it. It must be quite serious if he's having an op today - and the O's posted that news at five o'clock this morning.

One of then was you Cari,
to be honest this isn't the worst news (as long as he makes a full recovery, surgery is never good)
I've though for a while that he needs a rest, and now he'll get one (better a rest at the Ospreys expense than Ulsters as well)
for the summer tour it's not the worst news either, I'm hoping that its the irealnd squad plus the 'A' team that travels and after kidne has eyed them all over there are big changes, it will gel a squad like a lions tour does. but TB on form will always be staring at 14, so for th etour its more important to find who his back up will be.

This is one of those medical things that isnt overly urgent. this tells me that Tommy decided with ospreys that it would happen now so that he would be ready for Ulster in September. I'm thankful for this!

That's a shame, i was hoping to see him and Dirksen on the wings for the O's instead of Eli "couldn't catch a cold" Walker.

Another one hoping he makes a full recovery - always strikes me as a decent guy as well as a top international player.
Perhaps you could offer your services as a live in nurse whilst he recovers from the operation Cari ?

I would give my left arm for that job!! It'd be like Carry On Matron!
"Oooh no, Mr Bowe, I have no sponge for your bed bath, but my hands are warm...."
I'm sure he'll be OK, but any operation where you have general anaesthetic carries its risks I suppose.
