Davis Cup Qtr. Finals. Day-3
Great matches lined up and I see every nation has a chance to win and go ahead into the semis. In a long time, I see no dead rubbers starting the day-3.
Spain: Austria
Current standing 2:1
Match of the day:
Ferrer vs Melzer
Melzer needs to bring his A game to win this and he must be motivated to do it and give Austria a chance. I see he always enjoys playing for his country. He need to serve better, far better. Ferrer "the terrier" on clay in front of home crowd is a huge challenge. I hope Melzer wins it to keep things interesting, but likely that Ferrer will win in 4 sets.
France: USA
Current standing 1:2
Match of the day.
Tsonga vs Isner.
A real tester this one for the "improved" Isner. Isner can't leave it for young harrison against Simon. He needs to close it out himself. Else likely France going through. Tsonga will have his all crowd support backing him, and he knows how to use it in his favor. For Isner his biggest weapon is always going to be his serve, he need to up it against Tsonga. Tsonga is no wait-for-errors Simon and a dangerous 1-2 punch player. I'm not sure whose side to take, both being my favorite players. May the best man win.
Czech Rep. : Serbia
Current standing 2:1
Matches of the day:
Berdych vs Tipsarvic
Better of Berdych will beat Tipsy, but we don't know which Berd will turn up. He suffers mental weaknesses but so does Tipsy. I think the one who plays more solid will win this. Berdych in 4 for me. But if it doesn't happen still Stapanek should beat Troicki and win it for his nation. Troicki has the skills but mentally fragile as a glassware. I haven't seen any player lose so many matches from winning positions as he does. Stepanek is fired up, and he never backs down from a challenge, win or lose. I have to like that attitude.
Argentina : Croatia
Current standing 2: 1
Matches of the day:
ATM Nalbandian is scheduled to play Karlovic, but I don't think Nalby will play today considering 2 days of 5 hours of tennis. Will karlovic play?? More likely. So his opponent should be Juan 'pico' Monaco. Karlovic's best chance against him is taking it all in tie-breakers. Pico has not much of any game but can grind out for hours which Karlovic may not be able to do. Ivo must do it as soon as he can, the longer the match goes it will start swinging in Monaco's favor. I want Dr. Ivo pull this one because I don't like Monaco's game and I want the last rubber to anything but dead. Delpotro is reported to be ill but feeling better. If he beats Cilic, it will give him that much needed confidence going into the clay season.
To the great matches coming up today . Enjoy tennis.

And Isner takes the 1st set 6-3 with a brilliant ace. Sudden lapse in concentration with 2 consecutive double faults from Tsonga gave the break to Isner.

Third TB set in Tipsy-Berdych match. What a fight! Law of averages says, Tipsy wins this set.

Berdy-Tipsy was entertaining. Good play from both players, and at the same time some weakness in the mind. Expected.
And another low for poor Troicki. He couldn't win a set against Rosol in a dead rubber in front of all his home crowd?? Very poor.

Intriguing that USA has won two successive away DC ties when the hosts chose to play on clay. It didn't work for the Swiss and it seemed the French did not learn from this. Still don't know what the Swiss were doing playing on indoor clay when Fed's indoor hard record is so good. Be very interesting how USA get on against Spain in the semi.
