Who is your favourite Doctor?
Dr Who
Can't believe no-one has posted anything about quite possibly the greatest TV show ever made!
Well the new series is nearly upon us, and as I found this on youtube today Clicky, I thought I would start a new thread (its a new long trailer for the new series).
Feel free to talk about all of the series and doctors on here, although I would imagine that it will be predominantly made up of the reboot.
From the reboot, Matt Smith is by far my favourite. Never liked Ecclestone and although I liked Tennant, I just feel that the last lot of specials were terrible and tarnished his memory. Matt Smith plays him brilliantly and doesnt make me miss DT one bit.
So what are your opinions of this fantastic show and how good does that trailer look?

Re: Dr Who
Two words
Karen Gillan
Not only the best Doctor (agree with you Hobo), but frankly the best assistant they’ve ever had, yes she beats Piper by a mile.

Re: Dr Who
When does the new series start H?
I really liked Tennant and didn't think I would take to Matt Smith. I was ready to hate his first episode and stop watching but I really enjoyed it. I like the way he has transitioned to being quite like David Tennant's doctor at the start into his own character as he has gone on.
Speaking of rubbish specials, the Christmas one with Katherine Jenkins was awful!
Hero, I remember you sent me a pic of Karen Gillan when she was first announced and wasn't impressed. She is now one of my ideal women. The only bit I enjoyed of the Christmas special was the return of the policewoman's outfit!

So what does everyone think about River Song and who she is.
Dont forget to use the spoiler drop down if you want to say!
Here is my theory about River song:

- Spoiler:
- In the last season, when River was a prisoner, it was mentioned she killed a good man. I think she kills rory.
Re: Dr Who
hobo in reply to your theory
- Spoiler:
- didn't she say she killed the best man she ever knew? May seem a little strange with the kiss however they are aliens, but what if river song is actually the Dr's daughter under a different name?

Ah yes....I can't remember that episode very clearly........maybe I'm wrong.
To be honest I do get a little confused over Doctor Who

Re: Dr Who
I'm intrigued to see who River/Amy end up attacking/killing. Last season River did say she killed a good man, and in the trailer for this season
- Spoiler:
- we see Amy shooting someone right at the end.
- Spoiler:
- The Doctor's Wife

Re: Dr Who
One thing I wonder how they will get round is it was always part of the canon story that the Doctor had 13 lives only and at present we're on number 11.
Re: Dr Who
especially if theyre going through Dr's at this rate if River does kill the Doctor, im sure Matt Smith has more than 2 series in him and his character

Re: Dr Who
3 series per Doctor is IMO about right, 1 to introduce, 1 for them to revolve around, 1 to build around the death.
Re: Dr Who
Has The Master now had more than 13 lives? I thought I read somewhere he had.

Re: Dr Who
with regards to the lives thing, from memory, the Master was always trying to find ways of getting additional lives.
I am sure Moffat has already stated that it is not written into the Timelords law that it has to be 13.
Its not exactly hard to explain away when they get to 13 though - lets face it, most of the new series finales have involved a "reset button" resolution of sorts. I am sure the Doctor will have a reset button on his lives - maybe like Highlander - the reappearance of the timelords resets his clock again.
Just watched the ending of the last series last night - it was much better than I remembered.
Quick question to the obvious Who fans on here. What did everyone think about the Van Gogh episode last season - its the one that has come in for the most criticism but I personally loved the ending after the monster died.

Re: Dr Who
Very very good.
I thought the aliens (the Silence) were excellent.
Cant wait for next week to see how they resolve this!

Re: Dr Who
the start was like eerrrr what  but really well done, heard a theory a while back about river
- Spoiler:
- that she was amy's daughter, with the mentioning of amy being pregnent in the first episode could it be true? Didn't River mention that she knew nothing about the doctor but he knew alot about her? well being amy's daughter would explain that a bit. Also Amy POND/RIVER Song, coincidence on the water reference thing?

- Spoiler:
- Is she? Has it been mentioned? I just thought that she got hold of a vortex manipulator which allows time travel, meh something could happen down the line to Amy/Rory that means they become part time lord or something, they could write it in if they want. I just think mentioning it at the start of the series seems fishy

Re: Dr Who
- Spoiler:
- About River Song, I'm pretty sure it's been mentioned before she is the Doctor's wife. Also she isn't a time lord, she is from some point in the future and when she has travelled in time/space this is due to as hodge says she has some device of some sort technology which allows her to do so, this was seen in one of the episodes in the last series where she stole one.
About today's episode I thought it was very good, liked the new aliens, liked the story though I thought it might have been a return of Captain Jack but then I suppose most of the first episode of the new series not containing the Doctor would be a little strange, be interesting to see how it continues next week.

Re: Dr Who
The last Master (John Simm) was Mister Saxon - anagram of Mater no six. So if that's true, he's got 6 left.
Doctor,s are becoming younger (I think), at one point he will regenerate and become no more.......
As for Song, she had said in the past/future that she is/was the Dr's wife. Nice tie in with her possibly being AMy's daughter.

Re: Dr Who
I'm not a big fan of Doctor Who, but I watched it last night. The opening moments were spectacular, superb directing, great locations used and when the initial surprise happened I thought 'hello this could get interesting' but for the man to reappear 5 minutes later was just a lead balloon, there wasn't any time really to let the other characters stand on their own two feet.
From then on it just went down its usual cartoon like ways, everyone looks up to the doctor, the doctor always has a trick up his sleeve, the doctor is always above everyone, the doctor can get away with terrible excuses for being in the White House which we lauuugh at because its funny, the doctor always has the quick quips, the doctor always saves the world with seconds remaining whilst everyone is quite simply not needed, there is always a tepid plot twist at the end.
I wouldn't mind if the Doctor was actually GOOD but it's Matt Smith who just does everything Tennant did but not as good with less eyebrow movements, a blockhead and a ridiculous, out of place tweed blazer.
Sorry for offending yet another major part of the Television forum users, but it's just my opinion.
I'll batten down the hatches.

everyone has an opinion.
Its just yours is wrong!
Smith is 10 times the doctor tennat was already.
I grew up with Tom Baker - however, Smith is the best Doc I have ever seen.
Last nights episode was fabulous.
Since the reboot, Eccelstone was awful, Tennant was great but let it down with the specials in the rundown to him leaving.
Smith hasnt put a foot wrong and is the most alien doctor of the lot. Simply perfect for the role.

Re: Dr Who
BBC3 probably as well, they tend to get a rerun of it sometime in the week.
I watched it, for the first time too I let my 5 year old watch it and he sat with his mouth catching flies for the entirity of it.
I think the dynamics of the Dr and his assistants are the best that they've ever been, for the first time the Dr actually takes direction and leadership from his assistants, it's a lot more of a level playing ground than its ever been previously.

The 2nd episode was great. Just hoping they don't ruin the series by trying to fit what happened in the last scene into the other episodes, but I'm also interested to see if/when it is next featured.

4 hours to go people until the next episode.
I reckon tonights is going to have a lot of humour in it to balance out the dark beginning of the series.
Cant wait - Amy in Pirate bodice me hopes!

Re: Dr Who
Again a quality episode even if it was one of those one-offs a third into the season kind of way.
Watching back on some of the Eccleston episodes this morning and have to say that Matt Smith is 10x a better Doctor. Eccleston ones are just slow paced dialogue for the vast part of the episodes.

Re: Dr Who
The Eccestone ones are awful imo.
Last nights was OK but had some glaring plotholes:
After the kid cut the pirate, he disappeared when the doc came back.
Why didnt the three of them end up on a slab like the others after being taken by the siren.
It was fun but not great. Lily Cole was sexy though.

"to find out who is everyone's favourite Doctor"
Ah but that is such a generational thing isn't it?
A toss up for me between Jon Pertwee and Tom Baker, but I went for Pertwee in the end.
Not old enough to remember the first two. Never liked Sylvester McCoy, or Colin Baker. And I thought Paul McGann and Peter Davison were a bit meh.
Of the re-booted Dr Who, I thought Eccleston was brilliant. About time we had a Doctor with a northern accent. Tennant was pretty good too, but haven't seen any of the Matt Smith episodes yet. Must try and catch them on BBC America, while avoiding all the spoilers in this thread.
