Hopefully he proves as adept at sidestepping this setback as he did in his playing days. A legend of the game and far too young to have a stroke. Get back on your feet soon mate.

Can't add much to what's already been said. Great player and top notch pundit. Come through it in tact fellah. It's not just Aussies who value you for what you bring to the sport.

This is a man that I totally respected as a player and do still as a pundit.
Haven't seen him on Sky for a while though. Has he been covering the SH stuff or was he let go?
Great bloke and I wish him, his family and friends my heart-felt best wishes.

The news this morning suggests he's going to be alright. Was able to walk and talk a little last night. No signs of paralysis, but some problems with vision in one of his eyes which may or may not be permanent.

Stroke is basically any circulatory problem of the head - the effect of it can cover a huge range of severities - anything from migraines to amnesia and paralysis.
Boomer - I hope you're right and he's fully functional.
The most consistent 10 of his era and with the best all round skill set (and I liked Mark Ella as much as the next punter). The Farr-Jones, Lynagh, Horan and Little midfield was probably the best I saw growing up.

Doesnt get mentioned a lot but that was a pretty impressive and particularly intelligent set of backs when they played together. Campo was usually on the end of that lot as well..

Re: Michael Lynagh suffers a stroke.
Rugby legend Lynagh is now in critical condition.
It's been confirmed that he did suffer a stroke, confirmed by the medical team operating. Wishes of recovery and good health have poured in from all around the world not just the fans on this forum, something his family is very grateful for. Upon suffering a stroke it is likely that will affect him from now on but so far signs are positive.
What a great player and guy he was. I wish him and his relatives all the best.

For a decade from his debut in 1984 to his international retirement in 1995, Michael Lynagh was one of the most recognisable players, an inspirational playmaker whose finest moments came at fly-half. By the time he played the last of his 72 internationals he had set a new point-scoring record (911) - a mark that still remains - and been a key member of the side which won the 1991 World Cup in England. The zenith of his career came when along with Nick Farr-Jones he orchestrated an Australian backline that included Tim Horan, Jason Little and David Campese. He was also captain between 1993 and 1995.
Lynagh, who also won 100 caps for Queensland, retired from international rugby following the Wallabies' defeat to England in the quarter-final of the 1995 Rugby World Cup in South Africa, the same year the game turned professional. He became one of the first major signings in that new world when he joined Saracens, guiding them to a 48-18 victory over Wasps in the 1998 Tetley Bitter Cup final.
After quitting the game he maintained close links as a TV pundit in the UK with both Sky Sports and ITV as well as working with the IRB. An accomplished after-dinner speaker and director for a marketing business, he suffered a stroke during a trip to Australia in April 2012.

Michael Lynagh was released from the intensive care unit of a Brisbane hospital on Sunday, six days after suffering a stroke.
Australia's record international points scorer was rushed to the Royal Brisbane and Women's Hospital last Monday after suffering blurred vision and headaches.
1991 World Cup winning team-mate Tim Horan passed on the news after the hospital released the news of his recovery on Sunday afternoon.
"Michael Lynagh is now out of ICU today," Horan tweeted. "Early days of rehab. Had a shave today."
His doctor Rob Henderson said on Friday Lynagh had suffered a "cerebellar and occipital lobe stroke due to a vertebral artery occlusion", adding the following days would be crucial.

Re: Michael Lynagh suffers a stroke.
. Michael Lynagh is a great friend to many people
by: Tim Horan
From:The Daily Telegraph
April 26, 201212:00AM
WHEN I first started playing for the Wallabies, I had only just turned 19.
In those days it was difficult for a young bloke.
Very early on I was sitting with Scott Gourley at breakfast, on our own, because you had to be invited to sit with the senior players.
Michael Lynagh was the first one to come over and welcome us in. He took myself and Jason Little under his wing for many years. Michael became a very good friend and a great mentor.
The outpouring of concern and support since Michael fell ill last week, via a split artery which caused a stroke, has shown just how many people he's touched around the world. The amount of response I've had regarding Michael's health and well-being has been astounding, and from all quarters of the globe.
Lynagh in intensive care after stroke
Michael means a lot to many people.
He went to school in Brisbane, obviously spent a lot of time in Australia, went to Italy for a while and then played in England, where he still lives.
And that concern is not just because of Michael's rugby ability, it is because of the bloke he is as well.
The greatest trait Michael has is his genuine warmth to everyone.
I had the chance to see Michael this week in hospital, and saw his mum and dad there as well.
I was just going to pop up for five minutes to say hello, but I sat with him for 90 minutes. He was sitting up and laughing, and the only indication he was a patient was the hospital robe he wore.
In regards to what he's been through, it's remarkable how well he's come through it in the early stages.
He is still not out of the woods yet. There is still a long road ahead, in regards to the blocked artery and how exactly the medical team decide to treat it.
In the meantime, they're keeping a vigilant eye on him to ensure that there is no recurrence.
I conveyed to him all the well-wishes from different parts of the world. He was very appreciative.
My time was up to leave when dinner arrived.
The big surprise in hospital is lifting the lid on a mystery dinner and, on this night, it was a meat pie.
When he looked at it and half thought about eating this sorry-looking thing, I thought: "Well, he must be on the road to recovery!"

World Cup winner Michael Lynagh has admitted he is lucky to be alive after suffering a stroke.
Lynagh, who lifted the Webb Ellis trophy in 1991 during a distinguished career, was rushed to hospital in Brisbane after falling ill during a meal with friends two weeks ago.
The 48-year-old, though, has made a rapid recovery - and despite the sight in his left eye being damaged, neurologist Dr Rob Henderson claims Lynagh's progress has been "amazing".
And having been released from hospital, Lynagh said: "I understand how lucky I am.
"I'm just very, very fortunate. As Rob said to me, 'You haven't just dodged a bullet; you've dodged a cannonball'."
"It's been a tough couple of weeks. I must say, I'm very pleased to be here."
Lynagh, who is based in the UK and currently works for Sky Sports as a pundit, is hopeful that his eyesight will continue to recover.
"My brain has been damaged in certain places," he added.
"Forty-five per cent of sight to the left has been lost, hopefully over time my eyesight will improve."
Lynagh won 72 caps and scored 911 points for Australia, going on to captain the side at the 1995 World Cup, while his club career saw him play for Queensland and then Saracens.

Billy, as with most problems of this nature it's a case of waiting to see if he regains the sight he has lost in his left eye among other peripheral things. Great news in general though for a top bloke
