Loughborough Students RUFC Empty Loughborough Students RUFC

Being a local lad, I've kept an occasional eye on the low brows.

Forever it seems that they were always about to run away with the English National League div 2 (North) only to succumb at the very last minute to maybe the pressure of exams etc. etc.

But always failed to get promoted.

The current table looks like this:
Saturday, 14 April 2012 18:00 UK
Team P W D L F A BP PTS
1 Loughborough Students 28 23 2 3 887 437 16 112
2 Caldy 28 18 0 10 810 588 18 90
3 Preston Grasshoppers 28 17 2 9 783 590 15 87
4 Hull 28 17 1 10 628 547 17 87
5 Luctonians 28 18 0 10 581 485 12 84
6 Huddersfield 28 16 3 9 622 477 12 82
7 Westoe 28 15 0 13 662 575 19 79
8 Bromsgrove 28 13 2 13 713 594 18 74
9 Sheffield Tigers 28 13 0 15 579 598 16 68
10 Stockport 28 12 0 16 598 615 14 62
11 Hull Ionians 28 12 0 16 534 712 10 58
12 Leicester Lions 28 9 3 16 577 677 13 55
13 Otley 28 9 1 18 539 771 13 51
14 Harrogate 28 9 2 17 509 689 10 50
15 Nuneaton 28 9 2 17 494 712 6 46
16 Kendal 28 5 0 23 440 889 12 32

Their remaining fixtures are
Friday, 20 April 2012
Loughborough Students v Nuneaton, 20:00 (Nuneaton are 15th out of 16)
Saturday, 28 April 2012
Preston Grasshoppers v Loughborough Students, 14:30 (Grasshoppers are third) (also on a completely different tangent Wade Dooey's old club and my favourite ever England player)

And that's it. Sorry Low Brows you are going to get promoted this time.

Or are you?

Do they have to compete with Eng Div2 South winners?

How is promotion to E Div National 1 decided?

And Should the Low Brows step up a league with a transient squad?

This post is very, very esoteric.

They will be promoted as will the winners of the southern. If needed they will move a team from north to south (or the other way) but will not be needed this year, as the two bottom sides are clearly north and south.

The coach has said that next season they will recruit some non-students for league fixtures.

To my mind that is very retrograde.
Like in University Challenge and they allow post-grads to compete - only this is a bit worse - non-students of any description?
Sounds bad to me. A bit analogous to US Collegiate sports that admit degree students who can barely read.

On a slight side note the Loughborough Students RFC team will be playing a Baabaas outfit to celebrate the opening of their new 3,000 capacity stadium. Some of the Loughborough Students are also affiliated with the Tigers academy so maybe some of them will continue to play part time after graduation. Not sure recruiting non-students in any great numbers is a good idea though there is a case for one or two staying on after graduation. The rugby team is a helpful pull for the University and to maintain a standing squad aside from the student base might see other unis get in and lure away potential students who want to play rugby on the basis they won't get into the team.

I've seen some of the players that are deemed not good enough by Loughborough Uni and some of them walk straight into the first teams of local sides and become key players. The standard is high within the student body and I'd hope they kept it that way.

And so the should do Sam, Low Brow is one of the elite sporting universities in the country. And has been for decades.

combined Loughborough Students RFC and Loughborough University have a lot of matches to play.

The coach said the policy for next season would depend on the members wishes, but to allow for decent performances for both teams they would need to seriously think about limited recruitment of non-students - with priority given to former Students.

That is more comforting LT.

Do you think that Seb Coe will play on the Wing? Wink

Seriously a Low Brow presence in the National league 1 would be great. But based on students/ex-students would be as far as I'd like it to go.

Else get relegated back to NDN2 and play crap for the final few games to avoid promotion.
