ERC Heineken Cup Final thread - Ulster v Leinster
First topic message reminder :
All roads lead to Twickenham for the clash of the Titans of Irish Rugby on 19/5/12.
Ulster Flag
Ulster for a long time dominated inter provincial rugby in Ireland. Some see this as the start of something big.
Leinster Flag
Leinster are blessed with an amazing cohort of talent, based around BOD. Is the third final in four years one too far for him? If Leinster do it they will create history with the first back to back wins (since Leicester apparently. Couldn't remember that, must have been devalued for some reason )
"@HarpinOnRugby: Sexton needs 15pts in the Heineken Cup final to become the first player to win back-to-back scoring titles in the competition. #2amrugbyfact"
Ulster have failed to make the Rabo playoffs. Will an extra game against Glasgow this weekend help or hinder Leinster? Will a lack of a competitive game hinder Ulster?
Meanwhile, we conducted a vox pops:
"Leinster all day, all night and all the next week. It's in the bag. BELIEVE"
Mr Gibson
"We are gonna Party like its 1999! SUFTUM!"
Mr Ravavivian
"Ulster are in CRISIS!"
Mr Ravavivian
"If Ulster get to the final then it's a devalued tournament"
Mr Livinguptostereotype
"well at least Nigel is reffing, I'll have my pink cowboy hat on cheering for him!"
Mrs Livinguptostereotype
"where my f***ing whisky, I don't support the Burgh, but they were robbed. It will be Exeter challenging Clermont in next years final mark my words!"
Mr Ofussurvive
NEWSFLASH
ULSTER FANS - IMPORTANT NEWS FROM STANDULSTERMAN
Sorry to get off topic lads. Just heard that Paddy Wallace will be down in the bar on Monday helping give away the heineken cup final prize from 8pm if anyone is interested.
"@WhiffofCordite: Not great news about Kearney and BOD is it? Hopefully just minor niggles. Why must pre-final weeks always be so fraught?"
"Mine's a double..." Mickado
"Can we change the title of this thread please to Three time European Champions v The poor man's munster" Hoog.
Come on Ulster, where's your banter?

"@rpetty80: If Ulster win the Hcup then Ireland would have 3 teams that have won it multiple times. England has 2 and France its just 1 #rugby"
There have been 35 tries scored in 16 Heineken Cup Finals. Will this game be above or below average in terms of tries?

WTF?!
Just posting this part so people know that this chap is just as bitter about both teams.
It’s the way of the world, and it’s starting to happen here. Leinster are disliked not because of religion, or tribe or identity. They’re hated all for themselves, for being poncey, right-on, Dublin 4, toffee-nosed, privately-educated Hoorays whose daddies still wear school-ties. Praise the Lord, we’re growing up a bit!

Re: ERC Heineken Cup Final thread - Ulster v Leinster
It's a pretty ridiculous and pointless piece, I've booked tickets through ticketmaster and am hoping that I'll be sat close to some Leinster fans (obviously won't be disappointed if I'm surrounded by fellow Ulster fans though).
From what I see, the whole politics thing is usually brought in by the media and fans aren't too bothered. The rivalry is between the teams and nothing else, even then it's only through the game and then it's back to getting smashed with each other!

It was after reading that particular paragraph that I had to stop reading for a while Mick and vent my anger on the wall. I badly want that eejit to lose his job but unfortunately it would be a dream too far.
The good thing is little warts like him will never create anything near division in rugby fans.

Re: ERC Heineken Cup Final thread - Ulster v Leinster
I think it's going to be a great all Ireland final on neutral territory at Twickers.
Well done GAA.
Thank god Kerry didn't make it again this year. Jeez that would have been boring.
For the record, I reckon it will be tight one. Leinster by a goal or two only.

Kerry made the AI final last year and let me assure you, it was far from boring!
The last time there was an AI final outside of Ireland was New York in 1947, and Cavan (Ulster) won....

Feicing right, the guy seems like a right eejit. Seems like a guy who has a few stereotypical views of provinces (all Leinster fans a privately educated snobs from Dublin, all Ulster fans are middle class Protestants from in and around Belfast...) and it shows. He just is completely failing to grasp why, for instance, guys from Monaghan or Donegal would be interested in Ulster or farmers from Louth or Meath would go to the RDS or former GAA players in either province would try their hand of rugby. He's just not adapted his views to a changing reality.

For Ulster to win they have to kick their kicks. Multiples of three. Tick-tock-tick-tock.

Big Mac you have already shown your allegiance by prior multiple use of the "vomiting" emoticon.
Continued use in the manner already shown will only serve to confirm the already formed opinion that you are not a very nice person.
You would do much better to engage in the friendly banter that has been the theme of this article.

Besides the good news that Henry will play I believe Henderson is being considered for the bench.
Close call between him, Diack and Faloon
My guess is Diack wil get the nod but its close

Wow! Thats... thats a demonstration of how much faith the management have in the form of Robbie Diack and Willie Faloon
For me it's still Diack every time. I believe he can and will raise his game if called upon. Though I'm sure Hugh Farrelly would be delighted to see two current U20 internationals in our squad given his thoughts on us not giving young Irish players opportunities.

Edited my post Notch - I too think Diack will get the nod but it does seem to be in doubt. I think they have been delighted with Diack in the last few games and very disappointed in Faloon.
More a recognition of how much Henderson has impressed.
As I mentioned elsewhere he has made a very old pros sit up and think - Muller, Bestm Ferris, Afoa etc are seriously impressed with him

Diack as a line out option is 2nd to none as well. His handling is superb and if he just gets the agression flowing I think he can be very good.

Hes not great in defence Diack, falls off too many tackles for my liking and isn't great in contact...generally hes not as physical as he was a few seasons ago.
Leinsters lineout isn't particularly great anyways although they can bring Mclaughlin and Toner in.
If Ferris or Pedrie needs to go off then Henderson would be a better option imo.
