ERC Heineken Cup Final thread - Ulster v Leinster
First topic message reminder :
All roads lead to Twickenham for the clash of the Titans of Irish Rugby on 19/5/12.
Ulster Flag
Ulster for a long time dominated inter provincial rugby in Ireland. Some see this as the start of something big.
Leinster Flag
Leinster are blessed with an amazing cohort of talent, based around BOD. Is the third final in four years one too far for him? If Leinster do it they will create history with the first back to back wins (since Leicester apparently. Couldn't remember that, must have been devalued for some reason )
"@HarpinOnRugby: Sexton needs 15pts in the Heineken Cup final to become the first player to win back-to-back scoring titles in the competition. #2amrugbyfact"
Ulster have failed to make the Rabo playoffs. Will an extra game against Glasgow this weekend help or hinder Leinster? Will a lack of a competitive game hinder Ulster?
Meanwhile, we conducted a vox pops:
"Leinster all day, all night and all the next week. It's in the bag. BELIEVE"
Mr Gibson
"We are gonna Party like its 1999! SUFTUM!"
Mr Ravavivian
"Ulster are in CRISIS!"
Mr Ravavivian
"If Ulster get to the final then it's a devalued tournament"
Mr Livinguptostereotype
"well at least Nigel is reffing, I'll have my pink cowboy hat on cheering for him!"
Mrs Livinguptostereotype
"where my f***ing whisky, I don't support the Burgh, but they were robbed. It will be Exeter challenging Clermont in next years final mark my words!"
Mr Ofussurvive

ULSTER FANS - IMPORTANT NEWS FROM STANDULSTERMAN
Sorry to get off topic lads. Just heard that Paddy Wallace will be down in the bar on Monday helping give away the heineken cup final prize from 8pm if anyone is interested.
"@WhiffofCordite: Not great news about Kearney and BOD is it? Hopefully just minor niggles. Why must pre-final weeks always be so fraught?"
"Mine's a double..." Mickado
"Can we change the title of this thread please to Three time European Champions v The poor man's munster" Hoog.
Come on Ulster, where's your banter?

There have been 35 tries scored in 16 Heineken Cup Finals. Will this game be above or below average in terms of tries?

Silly errors seem to be costing Ulster at the moment. Leinster have been been superb in their execution, but both tries have come off the back of shoddy kicks from Ulster.

Noooo! What a waste of a try opportunity. Why did he go for a drop goal then?

Re: ERC Heineken Cup Final thread - Ulster v Leinster
That was an absolutely idiotic mistake from the young FH - Maybe Humphries should have started, or Pieenar at 10
Ulster need tries, and they blew a huge opportunity there, and they won't get many others against Leinster.

Leinster will remember where they were at half time last year - I don't see there being any complacency in the dressing room!

they do that rap around an awful lot, it's that good even if the other team know it's coming they still can't stop it.

That's the thing with Leinster, they do not let up. If they were ever going to give up, they'd have given up last year at half time!

Jackson obviously getting a lot of stick, but give the guy a break. If he lands it there is nothing wrong with the decision. It's his second start FFS.

What do Leinster fans think of Reddan? As a neutral, I could always take him or leave him, but hes not impressed today so far.

Thom - I'm not having a go at him, I just don't see why he did it. Still, it takes experience to make those split second decisions under pressure. I guess Jackson thought he could kick it, and just didn't follow it up.
Ulster going for a penalty HT 14 - 6.

Reddan, is probably the best of our scrumhalves, but our scrumhalves are shoite.
If you come out of the 22 with a few points each time, you should win the match, I think that was Jackson's thinking. A few inches here and there, like the drop goal Humph got against Munster in the Quarter.

Right! Ulster really need to score a try early on. Leinster definitely won't make it easier for them. Pundits reckon a Leinster win by 12.

That is a big call. I think it's correct though.
I would blame that on Ferris as much as Jackson, I would wonder did Nigel answer him when asked when he was inside?

Ulsters kicking is killing them! Just don't kick the ball, you look dangerous when you run it and at least if you have the ball Leinster can't rip you to shreds!

There's plenty of time left, it will be competitive for another while yet.
Chin up Paddy, plenty of great days to go in your career, for Ulster and probably for Ireland.

Leinster on the verge of legend, not exclusively Irish but rugby history generally.
Ulster looking well and truly out of their depth, Pienaar's superb kicking aside.
Enjoy it folks, you're watching a famous game either way!

Acknowledged. Still worth mentioning that Ulster have less time than Leinster did last year to execute an almost identical comeback...
The Ulster attack like water dashing against rock, Leinster are just looking incomparably composed and decisive in attack and defence, at the breakdown and with ball in hand
