Farewell Wally.
Genuinely gutted for David Wallace who has announced his retirement.

+1. Only hearing that now from this post.
Definitely a player who led by example. We would have been far more effective with him at the World Cup than we were without him. Age and obviously injury took him out of the game but he certainly still had the bite as a player, as he was showing in the very game that killed his World Cup hopes.
Will miss him - a favourite.

Re: Farewell Wally.
Absolute Legend . Just behind BOD and POC as the best Irish player of his generation for me. Totally world class for nigh on a decade.
Amazing player, one of the best ball carriers I'v ever seen and totally redefined back row play.
Like Shaggy he was right at the very top of his game before he got injured.
He can have no regrets though and should be proud of the fantastic career he had for Munster, Ireland and the Lions.
Take a bow wally!

Re: Farewell Wally.
Absolutely gutted. My favourite player growing up. To this day, he's one of the best ball carriers in rugby. Legend of the game and a true servant. Personally feel he played it the way it should be played- brutally physical on the pitch but a gentleman off it.
All the best to him for the future.

Re: Farewell Wally.
.........
Did I ever tell you you're my hero?
You're everything, everything I wish I could be.
Oh, and I, I could fly higher than an eagle,
For you are the wind beneath my wings,
'Cause you are the wind beneath my wings.
Oh, the wind beneath my wings.
You, you, you, you are the wind beneath my wings.
Fly, fly, fly away. You let me fly so high.
Oh, you, you, you, the wind beneath my wings.
Oh, you, you, you, the wind beneath my wings........

Re: Farewell Wally.
Jeebus what a player. Thanks feic Sean O'Brien came along when he did.
Wally was just awesome, raised the bar out of sight for back row play in Ireland.
That performance against England in 2011 was off the scale. He was just everywhere that day.
Wallace was consistantly brilliant though, a real cornerstone of the Ireland side over the last 5 seasons. Absolutely always got across the gainline i attack and his workrate was amazing by any standard.

Don't think anyone learned how to tackle him (maybe Tulagi). Everytime he got the ball he had about three people hanging outta him. Strong as an ox.

Consistently brilliant. He even played well in the 2007 RWC, when surrounded by a team in meltdown.

Re: Farewell Wally.
Mickado, I think the word is "ligind".
The Bull Hayes = ligind. Wallace = Ligind. Foley = Ligind. Flannery = ligind.
Sad to see them all retire. Irish rugby owes them a helluva lot, not just Munster rugby. Just look at the results, attendances, interest etc. in Irish rugby before these guys. And look at the legacy they left.

Re: Farewell Wally.
Always my favourite Ireland players outside of the Ulster players - out and out professional, incredibly down to earth no airs and or graces about the guy.
Also the best openside we've had since Fergus Slattery, will be sorely missed.

I will always be grateful to Wally for this...
Also, if the BBC have got any sense, they'll get him on their Six Nations coverage...

Brilliant player and charming, down to earth, intelligent man. Love him to bits.
The sex appeal of the Irish rugby team has been halved without him.
