Joe Schmidt off to Auckland blues
According to RTE radio 2FM the rumours are building that Joe Schmidt is favourite to take over at Auckland Blues.
Now if I was Joe I'd probably be more likely to leave on a winning note so should Leinster fans be supporting Ulster in the HEC final?
I think so.
SUFTUM! ....

However, Leinster fans can probably sleep easily for a couple of reasons. One, Schmidt has a contract at Leinster for another year and there is no indication he intends to break it. Two, he was reportedly offered the Blues' top job when he was at Clermont and he turned it down. And thirdly, Auckland native John Kirwan, former Italy coach and currently out of work, seems to be the front runner.
Other names like Vern Cotter and even Warren Gatland are being mentioned so speculation on this will be very high but we think that Joe will stay put with Leinster. And we’re very gla

A point. Though if Schmidt ever has ambitions of coaching the ABs he'll have to do a stint in SXV first. And if he could fix the Blues he'd have well and truly earned the big job.
That said, I don't know if Kirwan could fix the Blues given the things they've got to fix in the back office - their talent identification and recruitment is woeful for a region representing the biggest talent pool in rugby. So the Blues job could come up again next year

Re: Joe Schmidt off to Auckland blues
I think it is not done yet. There's some time before the end of the Super 15 season and if the ABs aren't looking to great in the AIs then the media might start to get on the back of the new coach. Schmidt might see it as a good time to get back down to the long white cloud and re-establish himself with the Blues. Maybe his family wish to return home or maybe he's keen to sign long term at Leinster? We won't know until he makes a statement.
Could this cause issues for Ulster? Anscombe has worked in the Blues area and his son is the Blues new fly half...

Joe Schmidt will work wonders with Auckland, wish him the best of luck
I still hope he's the next Ireland coach though.

Interesting Joe Schmidts was mentioned last night on an Auckland radio station as apparently voicing the opinion that his family were quite keen to return to New Zealand.
I could never see Gatland coaching Auckland he only wants two jobs in New Zealand and one of them is the All Blacks.

Re: Joe Schmidt off to Auckland blues
I want him to coach Ireland. Leinster were starting to stagnate and he came in and made them the best team in Europe, and he could do the same with Ireland. So I hope he doesn't go. I'd understand if he did though. Especially if his family want to go back home.

Were you joking rodders? Thats interesting because there is some entirely serious speculation that Schmidt might be tempted to return to New Zealand. I never thought you were wumming because I'd already seen it elsewhere before I saw your posts on the topic.

Nah I did hear it on the radio Notch, just thought I'd wind the Leinster boys up a bit, psyche them out before the final you know.... they were cracking too...
In all seriousness I don't want to see Joe leave Ireland, he's the best thing ever happened Irish rugby. The man is a genius .

Jonno Gibbs said he's not going anywhere. My guess is if Leinster Win the heino and he's offered a job with the blues he will head home. Why wouldn't he.

Gatland is contracted untill 2015 and you can bet that Roger Lewis wouldn't let him go for all the rice wine in china.
I don't see why you have to be coaching in NZ to be the All Blacks coach. Surely if Hansen flops in the next WC it would be better for his successor to be a recognised international coach - Gatland with Wales or perhaps Schmidt with Ireland.

We do it differently to everyone else. To play for or coach the ABs you have to be toiling in NZ I don't think anyone applies the same rules so clearly.

I think its fair to say that Graham henry did it the other way round when he left New Zealand he had won everything down here, that wasnt International.
Deans has had Super xv success and is now getting International experience,I'd have thought he was the next cab off the rank.
Schmidt has been part of the Auckland Blues set up before. If he does apply he will know exactly what the challenges are that await the new coach.

Henry was defense coach at the Blues in 2003 when he applied for the ABs job. Admittedly he'd only been back in NZ for a season, but the principal held

Not true. Some Kiwi journo may have voice that as speculation, but nowhere ever has Joe Schmidt said he and his family are keen to return to NZ.
