Who do you think will win the 6N in 2013?
BIG FOUR Six Nations table 2005-2012
Just thought I would make a table from 2005 onwards as that is when Wales bothered to join the professional era (for real) and play a competitive style of rugby (once every 3 or 4 years).
If one of the moderators could put my table into "TABLE" form that would be much appreciated as I haven't got the patience.
PLAYED WON DRAWN LOST FOR AGAINST DIFF TRIES POINTS
FRANCE 40 28 1 11 1017 693 +324 102 57
IRELAND 40 26 1 13 940 724 +216 96 53
WALES 40 25 1 14 882 736 +146 80 51
ENGLAND 40 23 1 16 910 679 +231 88 47
INTERESTING FACTS SINCE 2005:
Wales are the only team to win the grand slam more than once (they did it 3 times).
Every time Wales have won the championship it has also been a grand slam.
France also won 3 championships, but only 1 grand slam.
England baffles me because they have the best defensive record & the 2nd best points difference, but were 4th overall.
This shows that they lost too many matches but only a small margin.
Ireland have only won 1 championship, but have the 2nd best overall record due to being very consistent.
Wales let themselves down by being appalling between winning tournaments.
Like Wales, France have won 3 tournaments but have also been very consistent throughout, only having a poor tournament in 2012.

Idris, I know you are comparing the top four teams, but it is unfair to dismiss Italy and Scotland in a voting poll hoever unlikely it may be for them to win.
I think it is only fair to add the other two, it is just politically correct to do so.

I'll add the two teams, but unfortunately struggle with the tables myself.

Poll options added (sorry for the feeble joke on the "don't know" option).
Can someone crunch the stats for Scotland and Italy, once that's done I'll create the table

Partly because I am Welsh and to give us a fighting chance, but also because Wales accumulated a total figure of 3 points between 2000 and 2005 so I just wanted to see a comparison from a time when all four nations were on par (ish).

I don't think Wales can do it next year, especially with Gatland not there. I've gone for England

England topping the poll. Common sense is starting to prevail on 606v2 rugby union forums

I have a sneaky feeling that France are going to be back with a bang next year so i would tend to lean towards them.
Wales will continue and push France all the way.
Ireland, a much imporved Scotland with a new coach and England will fight it out between them and i cant pick who will take 3rd place.
Italy will be last.

Going on my quite scientific graph of general swings and overall trends..I say
England to win,
Ireland 2nd
and Wales 3rd.
And on that world ending bit.................... I'll bet Heaven can't wait.................... "Oh here we go, here they come...the Welsh lads.............. oh well, it was a quiet place for half an eternity anyway. Let them in - one by one but!"

I think Wales will win. France looked appalling this year. Ireland won't get more than 3 wins. England will challenge Wales for the title.

I really do have a feeling that France will come back strongly, when was the last time France have had a run of bad years? They have the side capable of doing very well.

08 and 09... was I think the last time. But the trend for them I think is a little bit more in the doldrums before a rise. Their lowest was 01 when they came in 5th and since then they've never been lower than 3rd...until this year when they came in 4th. I think they're in a dip that might stay there for another year. But we'll see. Anything can happen in old 6N.

I just think that they had a really off year and the changing of coaches didnt help them at all. They will be back, they have an excellent team so i really cant see them staying down for long.

Re: BIG FOUR Six Nations table 2005-2012
Not long..but I just have a feeling one more year.
Other nations really are closing that style gap year on year though. It's real, it's quantifiable. The French have always stood out because it was natural..now professionals are learning that it doesn't have to be natural, that you can often contain the more natural variants of creativity and that you can create your own versions with drills and attention to detail on handling skills etc. France may be the naturals but I don't see real dominance in Europe going into and through this new decade. As I say, I could be wrong but we'll see
