Come on Compton! Needs about 60 more runs in the first two days of Somerset's match to go past 1000 before the end of May!
But Somerset do need a win to keep pace with Warks and Notts as they are about 15 points of top having already played a game more then Warks so they can't afford to slip up here.

I quite like Compton and I hope he gets the runs, but I won't apologise for hoping that Somerset do indeed "slip up" against us. Worcester are even more desperate for a win than Somerset!
Interesting to note that the match is going out on 5 live (sports extra). Bradders addressing the nation!

Worcs currently 215-2 just after tea, with Vik Solanki just having reached his half century. The men out are Phil Hughes (53) and Daryl Mitchell (80). The new ball is just around the corner, so cue a classic Worcester collapse. We'll be about 250-7 by the end of the day.

Re: County Championship Round 9 Discussion Thread
Gloucs' regular opener Chris Dent broke finger taking a catch as they dismissed Derby, sorry, table-topping-Derby, for just 95.
So young Jonny Batty promoted to makeshift opener.
But don't worry... he only made 2.

...and I see Lancs have got in on the act by bowling out Durham for just 102, with Luke Procter getting 10-4-17-5.
(Although Lancs are 80-6 in reply!)

Well, I wasn't far off with my predictions for the Worcester collapse. They lost 7 wickets this morning for the addition of only 70 runs to finish on 340 all out. Last night I am sure they would have been looking for 400-450 minimum.
Oh well, I suppose at least Nick Compton has chance to get his required 59 now!

Hi Pack - at least you've got runs on the board but from a position of 300 - 3 Worcs should surely have been looking north of 400.
On the plus side, the match is now less likely to end in a draw ....

Re: County Championship Round 9 Discussion Thread
Good lord Glammy have stopped using stumps to bat and have found some proper wood to use. 542-8, lead of 271 vs Leicestershire. Rees (66), North (116), Wright (44), Allenby! (61), Wllace (115*) and Harris (48).
They bowled superbly during the 1st innings of the foxes on a lifeless pitch on a gorgeous Welsh day. Nice to see Harris back after a lengthy lay off, bowled nicely on the first day and then followed it up with the bat. Seriously see him knocking on the England door when Jimmy calls it a day, get's some fantastic movement with the new ball and controls it precisely also. Average of 20+ also with the bat with a top score of 80* is pretty impressive.

After you posted that Guildford we only got another hour's play before the rain arrived. Clearly the weather disagrees with your no draw prophecy! Commiserations must go to Nick Compton though, who was 9 n.o. at the end of the day, so finishes may with 950 first class runs. Poor lad, great effort.
I look forward to a day of low cloud and vicious swing for the Somerset batsmen tomorrow... *looks to the skies in hope*

Re: County Championship Round 9 Discussion Thread
Hi again Pack - looks like my ''no draw'' prediction was way off the mark. We've had no rain here the last week so didn't think of that mucking up your chances. Maddeningly, a fair bit of rain is forecast for the Oval tomorrow when we're due to be stuffing Hants in the CB 40 (put that in for JimboHammers ).packofwolves wrote:guildfordbat wrote:Hi Pack - at least you've got runs on the board but from a position of 300 - 3 Worcs should surely have been looking north of 400.

Meanwhile today in the CC: -
Northants battling to hang on for a draw against Yorks;
Rain threatening to spoil the outcome of an intriguing low scoring match between Durham and Lancs;
Sussex look like losing by an innings to Middlesex.

Middlesex finally seen off stubborn resistance from Sussex tail and should go on to win the match.
Lancs digging in as if afraid to go for the win.

As the Worcs v Somerset match fizzles out into a draw, Kieswetter gets a Championship bowl for the first time and ends up with the rather impressive and even more unlikely figures of 3-0-3-2.
