Which comes first Club or Country
Club or Country you decide...
A long time ago in a sports message board far far away, the old 606 to be exact, there was a thread asking who would fans would choose first between their Club or Country. At the time I was very surprised to see how may of our Irish friends choose Club and just wondered if that would still be true?
Ireland have won the Slam since then however Leinster have also won just about everything else. So to all fans which is it Club or Country first?

Country everytime - the rest are just tributaries feeding that Ocean of national pride or if you're Scottish rain drops filling a puddle

I'd rather see England do well than Northampton Saints. Can't get much better than international rugby!

I'd say country. Not taking anything away from club rugby but int'l rugby at its best and with the most at stake is something else. I couldn't say if everybody feels this way but whenever Wales are going strong in a major tournament or threatening to topple a big side it makes me tingle inside. This WC just gone was something else, well worth the ridiculous ko times.

Country, but our coach is making that decision very difficult.

Country definately - though I would put some Scarlets games above Wales friendlies.
It shows the difference between rugby and football, as I work close to Cardiff and live in Cardiff and most of the Cardiff City fans I talk to would much rather see City do well than Wales and usually would prefer their players to be rested than playing a mid week Wales international - and can't understand why I would be so passionate about Wales.

Country for sure although Edinburgh matches are a load more entertaining than a good whack of internationals

Good shout for the Lions, Cymro. I do get just as excited watching the Lions as I do watching Scotland. However, when watching the Lions, I am unsure what to do when the team I want to win, actually win and have to check out what fellow Welsh, Irish or English drinkers are doing.

Club. They are there for me every week.
Also i am sick of continued law changes to make the "international game" more attractive - with no thought to the ruination of the game for the millions who play each week round the world.
Internationals may be the pinnacle, but without the grass roots it is worthless. International rugby gets more like soccer every month and that saddens me. I used to love internationals - even in the 80s when England were dire - now I struggle to care. Hopefully my trip to Oz next year will change that.

Re: Club or Country you decide...
I don't support any club in particular but club rugby is more important to me than international rugby. International rugby comes from the domestic game, the domestic game isn't there to prop up the international game.
I want England to win of course but I don't want to detriment the club game to the benefit of the international game (more than it already is)

When you live in a city that has a team made up of thick, gormless, cretins, and a coach of even less ability, and you country team actually wins a lot more tests than they lose, and constantly picks up a good haul of silverware along the way..
Its Country for me every time.

Yes Auckland is a nursery, producing some of the best League players in the World, However the locals are pretty mad about the performance of their rugby team.

Re: Club or Country you decide...
There you go, club ahead again. This surprises me as, in my opionion, even the most exciting HC game will never compare to a Six Nations, WC or Lions game.
Respect the to the Club first guys though, Welsh clubs could do with a few more like you at the moment.

Re: Club or Country you decide...
For me the Lions is the most exciting thing in rugby (but maybe that's because Wales haven't reached a WC final). I have probably never screamed so much as I did in the WC semi so Wales just edges lions.
The first 5 mins of the 2nd Lions test in 2009 was absolutely nuts and every went bezerk when BOD started that fight with Matfield and everyone got stuck it, it was amazing.
IN ORDER:
Wales WC final
Wales WC Semi
Wales WC Quarter
Wales v England
Lions Test
Other Wales WC
Wales v Ireland
Other Wales 6N matches
Ospreys Heineken cup knockout
Wales friendlies
Ospreys Pro 12 and Heineken Group games
