Shane Mosley appreciation thread
Surprised there's been no love for Sugar Shane on here. Arguably no where near the other two Sugars but a great servant for this sport nonetheless.
I loved his pummelling of Margacheato; a fight he came into a 4-1 underdog.
He probably gave Floyd his hardest time too... albeit for 2 rounds. I vividly remember that moment he rocked Floyd, I jumped up in amusement and honestly thought it was Shane's fight (credit to Floyd for coming back and winning decisively but forget him this is about Mosley).
Shane has never been one to duck, (something that can't be said of Floyd and Manny). From '97 to '99 as lightweight champion he made 8 defences, winning each one by knockout. In '98, he defended the lightweight title five times and was voted fighter of the year by the Boxing Writers Association of America while Jack Mosley was voted trainer of the year.
However something that takes away some shine will of course be the steroids use '03, till this day he claims he was unaware he took them (something most boxers caught claim ).
But anyways, Sugar Shane is without doubt a modern day great, he's retired at 40 and besides not winning any of his last 4 fights he can leave with his head held high... a lot of people credit Froch for his level of opposition but this guy runs him close, 3 of his last 4 fights were with 3 top 10 p4p fighters (Alvarez, Manny and Mayweather), he kept fighting the best till the very end!
Oh and all the best to his son who is following his footsteps and is currently an amateur boxer.

I think Shane's level of opponets tops Froch's - The beating of a near prime ODH is way better than anything Froch has done.

Can't get by the fact he was outclassed by Forrest twice.......I appreciate he's a modern great but for me not an alltime one...
His Oscar wins were very contentious..I had Oscar winning both!!!
and they'll be the stick he's measured by......
A very talented fighter and lucky one also....
Certainly someone to be admired and good luck to him..
Surely he retires now..

If Marg is a cheat then so is Mosley.
Think you would get hammered for creating the Margarito appreciation thread

I'm with SOF on this.
Mosely was a cheat who bore no regard for his opponents.
He'll be regarded as a great modern boxer. Never touches at ATG lists I make.

Re: Shane Mosley appreciation thread
Lewis number 1 on your list ?????
Think you're being too hard on this guy...seems like a nice guy to me...
For me Forrest is my main reason for holding him back in the charts...
I'll be surprised If 50 % of fighters haven't dabbled at some time.....
some are more subtle than others.....
Have to remember these days guys are beating Ben Johnson by two metres or more..
Amazing what eating your greens can do for you...
Why should Boxing be different...
The people making the money in sport are the Doctors beating the system!!!!
Not the Doctors trying to enforce it!!!

If you looted shops in the London riots, I don't think it would be a very good defence if you said I only did it cos everyone else was.
Your speaking in generalities now Truss, I would like to think the sport is generally clean and you are innocent until proven guilty. Mosley was caught out, admitted guilt. He was a drugs cheat. That does more harm to him then the Forrest defeats in my opinion.

Liking to think and reality are fleeting companions generally...
I'd like to think my piece is nine inches but I can't disguise the fact it's..
8 and a 1/2

dear me.
Good fighter, Shane. Modern great, nowhere near all-time, though.
