AL east - season thread
First topic message reminder :
first series of the season between the two and despite being very very early it could be a big one for the redsox
having been swept in both series so far they really need a good weekend, i am not suggesting they would be out of it if they have a bad weekend, it is way to early for any knee jerk reactions like that, but they wont want to fall too far behind early and the longer the remain winless the more pressure they will be under.
one good thing for the redsox is they are going to be facing the back of the yankees rotation
yankees have had a good start at 4-2 but really should have swept the twins but blew a 4-0 lead in game 2. probably best sign for the yankees is that their big players have made good starts at the plate and russell martin looks like he is the player he was before his injury.
lets hope for a good weekend and for the redsox to remain winless

Poor old Red Sox. That was a really good win but I bet no one in Boston was watching the game last night seeing as there was the little matter of the final game of the Stanley Cup to be decided. (The Bruins finally get themselves a duck boat parade)

Finally, after 3 rain delays the Sox game at Fenway is called in the 8th. 5-1 to San Diego. This game started at 7 GMT after a 30min delay and was painful, as a Sox fan, to watch. Ump's called it just before midnight GMT.
If the Yanks win in Cinncinati and sweep todays double header they go a game clear on top of the AL East.

Red Sox on a bit of a skid at the moment. They've lost their last three games, and are only 0.5 games ahead of the Yankees in the East.

The most exciting thing in Boston the last week has been the arrest of Whitey Bulger! The Sox are 0-2 since they caught Whitey!
But seriously, lets hope we can take 2 of 3 against Pitts before we head to Philly. We got Wake going tonight versus his former team. a win tonight is a must!

Well it never happened last night for the sox as they crashed to a 6-4 defeat to the pirates.
Meanwhile the Yankees edge there way back into first place in AL East with an 8-3 win against the Colorado Rockies.
One more game against the Rockies before 3 home games against the Brewers coming up as we defend our rightful and natural place in the division.

Well they've chosen quite a time to have a rest, two losses to the Pirates before going on a tough 3 game road trip to phillie.
Still 0-0 in the bot 3rd inns in the sox game. C'mon Pittsburgh!
Scoreless in Yankee Stadium so far about to start the bot 1st inns.

We beat the brewers 12-2 yesterday with a great performance from Tex, hitting his 24th home run of the season, superb second and sixth innings.
Meanwhile, that mob up the road got beat 5-0 by phillie
Keep it up, great stuff!

Have a great Independence Day all fans in the states,
and quite right too
All we need now is an alien spaceship the size of Belgium to fly over Boston to zap fenway and kidnap youk, Will Smith won't be there to save you in real life.
And by the looks of things he can;t save you from Toronto either!! Scores from AL East just now-
Toronto 7-0 Boston top 4th
Tampa 0-3 Twins top 3rd
Two decent wins against the Mets and despite yesterday's loss we still top the division, Jeter comes today so hopefully he'll hit well and we'll get a 4th July win against Cleveland.

Those aliens must have been over Cleveland instead. The Yanks go down 6-3 with AJ having another poor game on the mound, giving up our 2-0 lead in the 7th. He also conceded two crucial walks. Jeter features but unfortunately couldn't add to his tally.

Sox win a close one, 3-2, Jays score 2 in the ninth and the game ended with a throw out at the plate. Yanks also won, the Rays and O"s lose.
Jon Lester strains shoulder muscle while the Sox trade Mike Cameron and cash to the Marlins for either a player to be named later or cash.

Some AL East matchups this weekend, before the All Star break. The Rays are in NY for 4 while the O's head to Boston for 4 (The Jays play the Indians in Cleveland)
ESPN America have the O's @ Red Sox tonight (midnight), Jays @ Cle, 12am and the Rays @ Yankees at 6pm on Saturday. Due to Jeter closing in on 3000 we might have to see the Yanks and Rays more than once this weekend!

Woohoo! The Red Sox have just hit back-to-back-to-back home runs in the seventh. Ortiz, Reddick and Saltalamacchia have all homered to give the Sox a 10-3 lead. (Now 10-4 in the eighth).
In fact, if the Sox win and the Yankees lose (they're in the ninth and losing to Tampa Bay as I type this), then the Red Sox will be back on top of the East.

Nice to see you back Jane, kinda quiet round here last week or so, vacation time I presume?
Sox win takes 'em top again! Nice, of the next 9 games we have the O's 6 times (the Rays on the road 3)

Hi HH, well the Red Sox started tonight's game with a bang and scored eight runs in the first inning! Currently leading 8-3 in the fifth.
And Derek Jeter will have to wait a little while longer for his 3,000th hit seeing as the Yankees game against the Rays has been postponed tonight because of rain.

Another 10 runs put up against the O's in last nights win, Jane. Now the Yanks are 1 game back, due to that rainout. Funny to see Papi, whos normaly swinging for the fences swing for the O's closer (Here's the link to the view the bust up!)

Looks like the Rays and Yanks will play that game at the end of September, we should have wraped up the East by then, so no worries there!

Yankees give up 8(Eight!) in the first inning,
Colon line reads, 0.2 inns, 6 hits, 3 ER's, 2 BB's.
But I will look stupid if the Yanks do pull this out in the end but their always worth a laugh at!

Yeah, I was a bit gutted for my Rhinos. Managed to see the game on my computer, and I think the best team won
Good win for the Sox yesterday. They needed to bounce back after the drubbing they got in the previous game. It's going to be one hell of a finish to the regular season.

Interesting result in Super League taking Wolves to the top over Wigan.
On a bit of a come-back now, we're now down 5-4 in the botom of the second. Still 0-0 between the sox and the Jays.

Red Sox and Jays have gone into extra innings.
Hope it's not like the game against the Rays a couple of months back which eventually finished in the 16th.
Edit: Didn't need to go to the 16th. The Jays homered in the 11th. Game over. What a great time to start slumping. Not.

Aye, you came back alright last night though 14-0 V the Jays. We're still on top after adding more misery onto the Orioles 5-3 in a delayed game played in urine poor conditions.

Yeah they needed that one. Tim Wakefield's pitching tonight and hoping to get his 200th win. The Sox bullpen is looking a little depleted at the moment.

All the better for us. Currently 2-2 in the bottom of the second, Nice double in the first by A Rod. We play the red sox again on the 23rd and I'm confident of us getting decent results between then and now. I hope we don't blow a chance to take a decent lead this month and let you lot back in front.

Well the Red Sox are having one hell of a slump. They're three games behind the Evil Empire and only three and a half games in front of the Rays. And some of their losses have been absolute drubbings. A night off tomorrow and then Wakefield's back on the mound and still trying to find his 200th win.

Yea Jane, it aint looking good for us with 16 games to go, BUT you never know. We are 2 for 11 in the month of Setember with the Jays(3), Rays(3) and O's(4) at home before going to the Yanks for 3 and then ending the regular season with 3 games versus the O's. The Sox need to go on a major rip starting tomorrow!!
I have faith the bats can bounce back but its the pitching that has me worried. Our pitching has 'gone South' fast this month. Lester only went 4 inns yesterday giving up 4 and the bullpen have been bull****! Wake cant buy a win, Lackey is too up and down (has lost his last 3 with a 9.0 ERA), is Beckett 100% fit? And we just cant expect Weiland and Miller to carry the can. Thats a lot of pressure on Lester!! O well, thats the life of a Red Sox fan.

Im refusing to look at last nights boxscore, for the sake of my sanity at this stage! It gets late early, as someone somewhere once said
It really feels like I will be reading Bart Giamatti's easay "The Green Fields of the Mind' before too long, in order to console myself. A must read for all Sox fans by the way.

BoSox dropping one to the O's - never thought I'd see that this year.
PS: Does anyone know how to work the "table" feature?

AL East Champions!!!!!!
Quite Quiet from the Redsux fans now!
Bow down to your division champions people
A 4-2 victory for us and that mob up the road get beat 6-2 by the O's
Putting Jorge in for Montero and look what happens! Great Stuff!
God knows how the table works WC, its bloody confusing. Nobody really needs it to know who their divisional champions are now anyway. No 28 here we come!!

I am gritting my teeth as I say this, but congratulations. Urgh, that felt nasty. Er, don't suppose you fancy taking it easy on us at the weekend?
No, thought not.

Disappointing loss to the Rays but we didn't play a few of our best starters. Big Bartolo's performances are a concern though. Don't know wether or not we should give him a wee rest for this series then see how he does against the Rays again afterewards. Hopefully we wont be going easy on the sox Jane, I want us to go into the playoffs on a confident note with revenge against the sox but Boston will be going all-out to stay ahead in the wild-cards. The div title may be settled but this division isn't over yet.

Well done to the Rays on making the playoffs, I expect them to go far this fall. The Rays will go to Texas on Friday, a hard series to win but the Rays are hot right now so it should be a good one.

Gutted for the Red Sox but the Rays totally deserve to be in the playoffs. Hope they go all the way.
