Centre Court looks lush!
Ooh I really fancy seeing Federer play at the business end on this; changes of direction, reward for first strike, and so on!
Pity it'll be a desert by end of next week.....

Always looks good at the start. Do conditions slow as the tournament progresses? Why?

Depends on the weather I guess. If it is sunshine throughout the second week, then the courts traditionally in the past have looked like a desert by the finals weekend and play like a hardcourt due to getting baked by the heat from the sun. If it rains or the weather is cloudy throughout the second week, then the courts manage to keep most of their greenness.

I'd have thought that if it gets to look more like a "desert" as the event goes on, then it speeds up. But being a scientist I might be wrong!!
What usually happens is that it suffers from having play on it under damp ovehead conditions that often come at the wrong time - slowing the court
i.e. just as Nadal needs it at the business end of the two weeks
I must agree with BB, I was thinking that it's looked at its most grand for years

It must be all the recent rain! It'll dry up though...anyone remember the bone dry courts of the 80s after 2 weeks?

Yes, the years from 1983 to 1985 when the men's finals where played in desert like conditions where golden days.
