TACTICS TBC
General
We want to make sure that we play rugby in the opposition half and force handling errors, where we can attack the scrum and use the boot of Steyn to keep the scoreboard ticking over. Use the physicality of our pack to our advantage, keeping the ball tight in the middle section of the pitch to retain possession and build a platform to attack from. In our third clear to touch and challenge for the ball at lineout.
Donald and Steyn to ensure we play sensible rugby in the right areas, kicking long for touch in our 22, using the up and under in the centre of the pitch and delicate grubbers in behind centres to chase and force kickable penalties.
Steyn leads the rush defence, with Louw/Fearns flying up to cramp Steyn for time and space and ensuring he takes the ball deep behind the gainline and starving their outside backs of ball. Force him to kick the ball away, he is in poor form and low confidence
Forwards
* Franks to target Payne in the scrum. Look to draw penalties for Steyn to gain position and points. Look for a yellow card early on, with no front row replacements to concern us
* Picked a very physical pack to make sure that we defend strongly and smash over the gainline. O'Brien to lead pack from base of scrum making hard yards and setting up the ruck for Louw and Fearns to clear out. SOB to mark opposite 8 in defence to prevent charges from base of scrum
* At the lineout, Muller will lead the calls and look to pressurise oppoistion hooker and compete at every throw
* Louw is a breakdown specialist and will look to stay on his feet at the ruck and slow opposition ball down. Fearns and Lund to guard to the fringes of the ruck
* Use ball carriers of Franks, Louw, Tolufua, O'Brien, Fearns to make hard yards up the pitch and draw defenders into the ruck area, looking to create space around the fringes for Laulala to exploit
Backs
* Dagg given free rein in attack, looking to come into the line either side of Laulala. Laulala to look for the half gap with power and offload (only if on), with the pace of Biggs and Woodburn on their shoulder to make the break
* Donald to take the ball flat on the gainline, drawing defenders and buying time and space for Steyn in the 2nd playmaker role. Steyn not afraid to bosh it up if nothing on and set up the ruck.
* Vary the point of attack with 10/12 interchanging, look to keep it unpredictable on the gainline + difficult to defend against. Use the inside pass with forward runners of Franks, Caldwell, SOB to keep the inside shoulder honest and force the 10 to make tackles.
* Get Laulala on the ball early on and encourage a very pacy back three to run off his shoulder. Only offload if it is on, otherwise, crash it up and use SOB, Fearns, Caldwell to clear out and Louw to secure.
* In the second half, bring on Banahan for a huge physical threat. Encourage him to run into the centre channel early on and test a tired defence. Eastmond to come on for last 30 mins in a free role, acting as 2nd receiver, popping up wherever to use his pace, step and get more experience

Tactics
Use Parra to neutralise the kivking game of Pienaar.
Keep the ball tight in the forwards with Parra kicking and dictating the pace, then when there is a chance of fast ball, send in McCaw and Fraser fast into the ruck (same for potential TOs) and spread it and attack with a lot of pivots.
Halfpenny and Mitchell and Parra to ensure we play clever territory
Crash ball with Mitchell off wing and York and later on Joubert to exploit Wallace and Jackson. Take all available kicks at goal. Sub on Joubert at 50 mins and move York to 6 and McCaw to 7. If game is tight, move Geraghty to 12 and Parra at 10.

Tactics
We will play a structured game built around our massive ball carriers, the strength of our set piece and getting our lightning backline into space.
- Attack the scrum as a weapon - and call when we can. Look to really get the shove on.
- Use Wilkinson's boot to attack our strong lineout with Horwill, Decon and Johnson. We will relentlessly target the opposition's throws.
- Massive line-breakers right throughout the side that will look to tire down Sale defence. We will use our big carriers consistently to tire down Sale .
The likes of Afoa, Trev and Naqelevuki used off the shoulder crashing through the opposition defence.
- Armitage is the man charged with reaching the breakdown first and look to turnover possession. We will always look to attack quickly off turnover ball.
- Box kicks from Peel and up and unders from Wilkinson to give the opposition problems in the air.
Lightning back three to really get the chase on.
- Look to play attacking rugby in the backs, getting the likes of Lowe, Kahui and Nacewa on the ball when we can.
- Our back three are encouraged to do what they do best - counter attacking and running the ball back. If isolated all have good kicking games, but the counter is what we ask them to look for.
- Wilkinson to kick all penalites.

Re: Summer Cup Round 2
Tactics v quickly-
Use Parra to neutralise the kivking game of Pienaar.

*Whitelock to run the lineouts,
*Backrow to make a nuisance and JVN to lead Cane from the front,
*Quick ball and Lambie to give EFS it fast,
*EFS to give Roberts space to power through and offload to pacy wingers,
*Both wingers to go looking for work with Balshaw providing bombs,
*Use bench sparingly with Jones coming on after 50mins and the backs coming on to inject pace in final 20,
*Blitz defence with no gaps and a backrower over the ball slowing it down,
*Youthful team looking to play attractive, fast rugby.

Exeter Chiefs
Manager – Luke
16. Ben Moon 17. Neil Clark 18. Hoani Tui 19. James Hanks 20. James Scaysbrook 21. Kevin Barrett 22. Ignacio Mieres 23. Gonzalo Camacho

Re: Summer Cup Round 2
Hi mate.
See what you're saying about a straight swap, probs not much in it but Pocock shades it. Also, I have Bowden at 12 who is better than who I would have coming in for Pocock at 7.
The best you could offer, I expect, I something like:
Bowden + Pocock
=
Wood + SBW
Even that I wouldn't say yes straight away, I'd have to think about it..

Re: Summer Cup Round 2
Leinster 22–26 Northampton
Front row – See Saints getting an edge on throughout, great bench here too.
Engine room – Probably just shades to Leinster with some serious grunt
Backrow – Just to Saints. Wood seriously needs some form which hinders Saints here but Heaslip hasn’t been great for a few years.
Halfbacks – Prefer Dickson/Sexton, not convinced with Leinster’s Sexton
Centres – Great combo from Saints
Back 3 – Just shades to Leinster here
Subs – More up front for Saints, backs to Leinster
Overall – Saints too strong
Bath 18–24 Wasps
Front row – Slightly better scrummaging unit from Bath and in loose, Tolufua struggles to hit a barn door though and can see Baths lineout creaking
Engine room – Not much in it around the park, Wasps to shade lineout
Backrow – Wasps better man for man
Halfbacks – Slighly better platform for Wasps, Donald awful.
Centres – Good units, prefer Bath unit with great balance and little bit more quality
Back 3 – Dagg standout but better unit from Wasps
Subs – No advantage form either side
Overall – See Wasps having edge and working off better platform, Steyn will keep board ticking over
Chiefs 27–30 Irish
Great game, shows how far Irish have come to beat a fantastic Chiefs side
Saracens 21-20 Ulster
Just enough for Sarries
Exeter 22–20 Sale
Lack of winger costs Sale. Exeter have a little bit more but good match up
Stormers 24-22 Quins
Stormers very strong and see Quins backrow getting bullied out of it a bit
Newcastle 21–19 Worcester
V good close game, Falcons just a bit too much. Worcester bench scary and will push close
