Williams' Sisters unseeded for doubles - your thoughts?
Serena and Venus are currently playing their 1st rnd Ladies Doubles match, leading 6-0, 3-1...
Four times the Champions - but unseeded in this edition.
Curious at to what people's comments, thoughts are, on this?

Depends how seeds are allocated by the committee. It's not like they play much doubles together so probably don't deserve a seeding.

What would be most interesting is to hear this put to the other Top Teams - we had Hingis and Seles play Aussie Open some years ago, and got drawn (unseeded as THEY should have been) against Top seeds Raymond and Stubbs - whom they beat. It got quite contentious at the time.
It's not a matter of top singles players being seeded, should they team up, as they are not, by default, a top team in doubles.
With S & V however, their pedigree is already proven, by 12 Major Doubles titles, over the years 1999 right through to 2010; they have routinely destroyed much higher ranked, more titled, and long term successful teams.
I think maybe a lesser seeding of 9 to 16 somewhere, might have been appropriate to keep them away from Top 8 teams in first two rounds - HOWEVER, there is always the argument that a team that plays in and out, year round, and earns their ranking, shouldn't be deposed in a situation like this.
Flip side - Corroetja or Bruguera being top 4 seeds at Wimbledon - Wimbledon has always been the one to make "changes" due to specifics of surface - anyway, academic as draw is made, engaged and "on it's way."
Next match v 3rd seeds will be interesting to see, if we are lucky.
