Wimbledon - an indoor tournament
Hello
Oh minions around the milky bar galaxy it has been a wonderful Wimbledon thus far.
Upsets abound.
The big Berd was dumped at the first hurdle.
The young bull was slain in round two.
The Nadal slayer himself was put to the sword in round three.
The great ones (King Roger and Queen Serena) survived an onslaught and live to fight another day.
The Djoker remains.. will he have the last laugh?
The gunslingers (DP and Tsonga) lurk in the background..
The shriekers shriek on endlessly...
The Muzza continues to strive against a mounting wave of pressure..
But who will come out on top?
With rain forecast for much of next week, it would seem that the W roof will be closed for the majority of the remaining matches.
Wimbledon will transition to an indoor tournament..
Ok, not quite a traditional indoor tournament. There will still be bad bounces and the surface will continue to be slippy with all the expected humidity. The elements however will be negated. No blazing sun to befuddle the server. No wind to wreak havoc with the timing of the ball. No changes in temperature to affect the height and speed of the ball bounce.
The indoor W court will present a unique challenge. A low bouncing (due to humidity and heavy balls), slow (ditto), uneven (it is grass after all), slippy court. There is, and will be, no other court like it all year.
So who will this favour?

All that sounds good for the better players (removal of 'levelling' factors). I suppose Federer will be happy to stay out of the wind what with timing being important to him.
I think it also favours faster play - I still think Nadal would have won without the roof on, Rosols serve went into overdrive indoors.

I am happy to say I have no idea who will win this year. No particular form player has emerged which makes it a much more open contest.
Can't wait for the next week of tennis

emancipator hope your forecast is inaccurate. After all it's supposed to be an outdoor event and the roof (whilst sometimes a necessary distraction) should not be closed on a whim as sometimes seemed to happen this week.

While the Wimbledon this year is very interesting the form of top seeds have been a concern, on the otherhand the underdogs have come up firing and we could have easily had a GS without Fedal in the 2nd week of the tournament.

Re: Wimbledon - an indoor tournament
If it is mainly indoor it favours Federer and Murray from here on. Also JMDP I would say. Also, the players on centre tomorrow will have the advantage of their matches being completed. From what I understand the best case scenario for court one is intermittent showers, and worst case of rain all day.
I agree that it has been a fantastic slam so far. Wimbledon is usually one of my least favourites to watch, but the drama has been incredible. Fed dicing with danger, Nadal being blasted out, Murray finding his game just in time to beat Baggy and the clock....
I don't think I've ever enjoyed the first week of a slam more than the week we've just had. Hopefully the drama will continue.

Re: Wimbledon - an indoor tournament
Anyone who thinks rather stuipdily like Karlovic that the Wimbledon authorities favour Murray, only have to look at them sticking him on Court 1 for the answer
I've no issue for this, but I am very nervous at the slow starting Murray getting involved in a stop-start match against a good server
Mind you - it likely to rain all day and don't be surprised if at least one of the men's games is moved to the Centre Court, for more late night excitement
Otherwise, hoepfully better weather on Tuesday and an interrupted Murray match

Banbro - good point. As John Mac said last year when they stuck him on court 1 "all the other slams do schedule favours for their own stars, Wimbledon seems to be the only one that doesn't and I don't get it."
It was the same back in Tim's day when, as he entered his prime, they slowed the courts down making a serve volley Sw19 virtually impossible.
In some ways it's good that the tournament is 100% transparent, fair and without bias. On the other hand though, if everyone else is doing it...
Let's just hope the forecasters are wrong. The one saving grace is his QF opponent (should he get there) will also be affected tomorrow.

I actually hope the forecasters are correct - as I want a continous match!! But it is good that DP and Ferrer are after. I do not see DP having sufficent energy to go 4 or 5 sets with Andy, who along with Nole is a nightmare for the Argentinean - assuming he beats Ferrer

Re: Wimbledon - an indoor tournament
As long as he wins banbro, I wouldn't care if it was completed in 5 Installments!
I think rest wise the days off will become quite important. Plus with Cilic having had a marathon against Querry, I would much rather he was made to chase around tomorrow rather than get an extra days rest.
