v02 software bugs
I can understand why posters may want to go into any of my posts, scribble a dismissive reply and then never want to deal with it again.
But there is a 'Stop watching this topic' option which doesn't seem to work.
For me it's for example 'who am I?' article. But it keeps on invading <My Posts> despite the fact that the mods/admins tweaked it from it re-emerging.
That's not a v02 fault - it's a software host programming fault.
Does v02 report host software faults to the suppliers?

Portnoy,
Its not a software bug, man. Everyone is really out to get you.
I reckon.

Re: v02 software bugs
Can one of the other admins remind me how to turn on Portnoys "watch topic" option again please?
Re: v02 software bugs
And its not a v2 fault or a software fault.
You have been told how to do it and there is a thread in the announcements section on how to do it.
If you cant follow instructions, just create another pointless thread and let us know

That's a bit snotty Adam.
But the fact is that I had already.

Still 'who am I?' posts re-emerge. in my <My Posts>.

Look at the question Portnoy! I reckon you need to come up with a suitable answer
Now this thread will keep coming up in "My Posts"

Re: v02 software bugs
Precisely Notch
<Watch this topic for replies> / <Stop watching this topic> icons displayed at the bottom of each article doesn't work.
Adam's suggested resolution deals with switching off e-mail notifications (which I set when I joined the board). The point is precisely as you suggest:
Suggests that the software isn't working properly.

Re: v02 software bugs
Watching a topic means that you get an email when there is a new post. Stop watching this topic means that you stop getting an email when there is a new post.
Leaving a new post on a thread means that it will appear in your my posts. If you left a post on a topic and it appears in your "my posts" section then the software is working correctly.

Re: v02 software bugs
Then it's pretty rubbish programming, Mick - innit?
Either the <Topic(s) being watched> tab is misleading (<Topics for e-mail notification>)
Or better the tab should unclickable unless e-mail notifications are selected
Or on the page instead of '[n] topic(s) being watched', it should read '[n] topics selected for e-notification' or something.

And the solution is ... don't post on a thread if you don't want it to appear in your 'my posts' list

Yep. Rubbish programming or not. That is what it is.

Re: v02 software bugs
I have some sympathy with Portnoy here. I posted on a certain thread months ago (in fact I can't remember ever posting on it) and it still keeps coming up on the 'my posts' page. I'd like to 'uncomment' on it but I can't. At the same time, some articles I've commented on and actually care about have had new comments added but they don't get bumped up to the top of my page.
I want my money back.

Why do you need to "unwatch" threads if you're not receiving any emails for them? When you look at your "My Posts" page, simply ignore the titles of the threads you're no longer interested in following up, and scroll down the page to the topics that you do wish to read. It's not hard.

As a digital flag is already set against any article utilised to determine whether an email is to be triggered, it could on request be switched off to remove it to whether any post should be sent to <my posts>. Peasy.
I accept it's not a bug as such - just crappy design.

Re: v02 software bugs
But the digital flag does for email notifications CAN be switched off and on (start/stop watching this topic).
What you’re looking for is the ability to remove your imprint on a particular thread. While you can delete your post, removing the post from the “my posts” section defeats the purpose of having a “my posts” section. It’s not there for you to watch posts, it’s there as a log of all of the posts you’ve commented on. and as such is doing a bang up job.
If you wish to leverage the my posts section to watch the posts you’re interested in, then the simple solution is to not comment on threads that don’t interest you. Or you could try to delete your post from the article in question, might work, but only if the “my posts” section dynamically parses all of your previous comments.

Re: v02 software bugs
I take it that you've no experience in programming Mick.
It's a simple process (albeit obscure) to opt in or out of e-mails.
.
A slightly more complicated solution would be to put the <stop watching> icon on the <My posts> page.
The use of the term 'watching' at the bottom of each post is misleading any case. To clarify it, the term should be something like 'e-notify'.
Looks to me that the programmer was snatched from RyanAir - the gold-standard in poor program design and applications.

Re: v02 software bugs
You have no idea what level of experience i have in programming. I've done several modules in programming in college and work for a software company, i've got plenty of exposure to it.
But since you're such an authority on it, maybe you could take a stab at a source code mod yourself?

Re: v02 software bugs
Let’s say for example, someone reports me for making a racist comment.
The mods say “well I’ve never had a complaint before but I’ll have a look through his history and see if there’s a recurring theme”, don’t you think that the my posts section would be a good place to start? Wouldn’t it make sense for the user to not have the ability to remove threads that they’ve posted on from their “my posts” section?

I want to know why do you have to log in every second week or so, when you read this forum at least once a day. Can't it log you out if you have been inactive after a week or so?

I have problems also when I use Google Chrome Browser, when I click "post reply" the white box is in the wrong place on the screen, so I have to guess, or load Mozilla to use it correctly, it's a pain in the backside.
