Olympic 7's
Gentlemen & Ladies (and Mrs Mantooth - uncalled for? perhaps!)
Does anyone have any news on the 7's at the Olympics? Have squads been announced? Have fixtures been announced?
I've not heard a peep so far!

Would be a bit early to announce squads for an Olympics 4 years away!
7s isn't in the Olympics until 2016 in Rio. Same as golf.

And what a man sausage-up that is, eh boys and girls?
Should have been in London. Would have been a great event:
Minimal effort to execute, two or three days of a filled stadium, people from all over the world (even Bath). Exactly what the Olympics are all about.
Shame. Instead we get synchronized swimming.
Politics.

Politics, we love it so.
I was searching through the Hansard database (as you do...) for any mention of the reasoning for the decision to omit sevens from London 2012, but couldn't find anything conclusive. I suspect it was a decision made by the IOC, rather than LOCOG or the Labour or coalition governments.
However, I did find this little pearl, which warmed my heart immensely:

Re: Olympic 7's
Maybe we should organise an annual 606 7s comp. Select teams on a draft basis meet up somewhere and get absolutey lashed (and play rugby).

Re: Olympic 7's
did we not do that on the old 606?
Would be a laugh! We should petition to play it in the olympic stadium
