How's your nerves?
How's your nerves?
I ask because yesterday I was getting a bit tense over this but thought last night whether that was really appropriate as I have a really important business meeting on Monday and Roger won't be the least bit tense over that.
Something must have clicked in my head because I've woken up feeling somewhat detached from the thing. I still very much want Federer to win, but the nervous edge to it has gone.
So where are we all?

I'm tense because I don't really want either man to have to lose when there's so much riding on it for each of them.

No, honest.hawkeye wrote:liar!
I think what happened is that I got really stupid about it yesterday and I had to take it in hand with some serious self-talk and it appears to have worked.
Let's see if it lasts!

Got the butterflies.
I think your feeling BB I can understand purely because Federer has won so many of these slams. I mean should Roger win or lose nothing will change as he will still be regarded as the greatest player of all-time. For us Murray supporters though it could go either way. If he loses we'll still have to put up with the doubting and mickey-taking herberts coupled with another body blow of defeat but if he wins well I will be in seventh heaven.

Anyone recognise Category 5?
I'm afraid I am familiar with it. I once went to bed before a football match (Liverpool v Chelsea 2005 Champions League semi-final 2nd leg) to try to make it go away and somehow managed to sleep through!
How daft is that?

I don't completely agree. The chance of retaking No 1 and winning a slam in the Djoko Nadalgolden era makes this potentially a defining moment in how Fed is viewed.

Please don't mention that. It's what undermines my control.barrystar wrote:CaledonianCraig wrote:Got the butterflies.

We'll agree to disagree then. Federer is set in stone as the greatest player of all-time win or lose today and has all the records to prove it so there is no defining to do as the tennis fraternity realise Fed already stands at the top of the game.

I'm nervous about a potentially hostile crowd. If I see anything ugly I know I will have to turn it off...

I'm sure the crowd will be fine and also have a sneaking suspicion that Fed would quite enjoy playing the pantomime villian anyway
As for nerves, I am in denial. Final, what final? La la la (sticks head in sand).

Re: How's your nerves?
Can you turn it off now please. You were worried about Haas previously because of what he said about Murray. That was unfounded. So don't worry about this. The crowd will be fair. If Murray plays well they will be fully behind him. However if Federer is winning he will be treated with the respect he deserves.

Re: How's your nerves?
Astrologically, Federer is edging ahead, as Mars and Uranus conjunct in Scorpio.
On the other hand, despite the unpredictable weather, uncharacteric high cloud formations resembling 'tartan' have been spotted. Surely an excellent omen for Andy.
I find the perfect sedative is reading exhaustive articles concerning every possible aspect of the match-up of the century which are so over the top that they bring you back to reality like smelling salts:
"Andy keeps us updated in his exclusive live blog, posting between games, to tells us of how his preference for orange Robinson´s barley water has changed to Lemon as each round has progressed."
Our exclusive look at the brain and body of champion reveals how Andy´s diet is optimised to help left and right brain work coherently, and how the mineral supplements he takes are designed to enhance his first serve percentage.
Even then, I don´t think I can bare to watch the first set....

Re: How's your nerves?
Haha BB..you're not fooling me...you'll be like a cat on a hot tin roof around 2pm.
Its funny for me today, as a Nadal fan I can sit back and watch a slam final and feel abit detached. However, I always feel nerves for the competitors - and today we know there is so much on the line for either player.
A loss today destroy each player (for a time) as it might be the last time either appears in a SW19 final - partic. Federer (and he'll know it). Also, each player stands to gain so much from the win personally in terms of their career. So there is a huge edge to the matcn today. It might come down to who can handle their nerves the best. There you'd have to feel the seasoned campaigner Federer will have the lead in self control.
But who do I want to win today...I've thought long and hard about this. Because I dont really like Murray, but then I'm not a great fan of Federer the Man either...so I think about what the win would mean beyond the individual and I've reasoned that a Murray win would be great for British tennis...a great motivation for schools, clubs up and down the land, the coaches too plus the LTA. So our future success on the world stage in this sport possibly hangs in the balance today. It would also stop us harking back to Sir Fred Perry (the player, not the 606v2 poster!) too, so that's got to be worth something!
So I 'cannae' believe it but I'll be wanting a Murray win!!! But only for the reasons listed, not the player himself and even then I'm torn as deep down I think I'd prefer Federer to win...ohhh I cant even handle this as a "neutral"...lol

Excellent first post percentage today folks, keep it up. Key to the match is how each of us handles our nerves. Has there ever been a more over-awing day of tennis contention as this, even, or perhaps, especially, for the neutral? Expect plenty of double faults, even in the opening set.

I dare not watch, just as I did not watch the first SF. I know the result in my heart, but ....

Re: How's your nerves?
First off it is most fitting for Andy have the chance to win his first W title against the greatest player of the modern era. For Wimbledon and British tennis this is the dream final. The home favourite against the perennial favourite.
I will be sad for Andy if he loses, however, I can NEVER root against Federer.
Right now I'm in the butterflies stage. At the start of the match I'll be a little more nervous. Whenever Roger falls behind on his serve (even 0-15) I'll barely be able to watch.
If he faces break point I will start the 'stop the Andy Murray' dance and I will continue until the match is over and that gleaming trophy is safely in his hands.
Since the semi-final I've tried hard not to think about what this could mean for the Federer legacy. It feels like completion and peRFection beckons with this one match. It could be the moment when Roger clinches it all.. or it could end in bitter dissapointment.
I know that Roger has been there and done it so many times but I do feel that as you get older it gets tougher to control your emotions on these big occasions. As Martina Navratilova commented; she found it harder to control her nerves as she got older because she knew this could be her last chance at glory.
I hope it's a great match. I have confidence that if the real Federer turns up then he will win.

I am chilled. I'm not sure what it is but after TMF got through his QF I've been very relaxed. I wasn't even that nervous about the SF against the Djoker.
Hey, I see Fed as the marginal favourite but whatever the likes of lydian say it is hardly the end of the world if he falls to a player 5,6 years younger than him! Not like he went out in the second round or anything, that would have been a disaster...
Hope for a good final and I will take heart from Fed's improvements this year!

I have to say there was a moment yesterday when Marray/Nielsen lost a point and I had my head in my hands. People were looking at me a bit oddly. A week before I'd never heard of Nielsen.
