The greatest fight
First topic message reminder :
Afternoon gents,
Just got off the back of watching my favorite fight of all time, Gatti vs Ward 1 and I was wondering what your favorite fights of all time are?
I'm planning on making a list of 10 or so that I make my way through over the next week.

We can't forget the little guys, so I'd also chuck in Yuri Arbachakov against Kitikissem (his first name eludes me?) at Flyweight, too. Great fight with a touch of controversy. I've already mentioned McAuley-Bassa I, but Gomez-Pintor, is another fight from below Featherweight which deserves great consideration here.
Muangchai Kittikasem was his name.

Lewis beating Tyson was probably my favourite. A masterclass before, during and after the fight from Lewis on how to handle a bully like Tyson. Dont be intimidated and let your fists and skills do the talking! People thought Tyson would demolish Lewis,
Gordy I have to ask, when you say people thought Tyson would destroy Lewis, which people exactly, most people I know who know the first thing about boxing realised Tyson was around 15 years past his best and a mere shell of the once terrific fighter he was facing off against a top drawer heavyweight with a significant edge in both form and confidence, although I should acknowledge I don't get out all that much.
Sadly this has become a popular way of diminishing Lewis' great win and it was started by the jealousy of the American media who could not stand that Lewis was beating all their top heavyweights! Lewis went after the top heavyweights for years and was shamelessly avoided left, right and centre. When he did face Holyfield it was probably the worst decision ever seen and corruption at its worst. Thankfully Lewis got the chance to put the record books straight!
Dont get me wrong, when Lewis fought Tyson I knew full well that Lewis would win but everywhere I went and whenever I told this to people they looked at me as if I was crazy! Tyson will murder Lewis! Tyson is unstoppable etc! But the week after the fight more than made up for it as all those critics had egg on their face. Its just a shame he still doesnt get the credit he deserves and that our friends across the pond would not give him his dues!

Started by the jealousy of the American media?????
What by stating that a beaten by a passed it Holyfield twice (who'd just ben stopped by Bowe), Tyson wasn't the fighter he was!!
You don't know anything about the American media...
So leave it out!!!

Well you've convinced me, think people were a bit quick to forget how good Tyson had looked in his last fight when stopping the peerless Brian Neilsen

Re: The greatest fight
Wow. I don't think even Lewis would try claim half the credit you're giving him for beating an old and more than 10 years removed from his best Tyson. Its all a bit cringeworthy..

Think the kid needs to watch Whittaker-Ramirez before bestowing the worst decision of alltime on the Lewis-Holy fight!!

Re: The greatest fight
The irony is there are any number of things to admire about Lewis' career, his longevity, the way he bounced back from and avenged defeats, the dignity he always tried to display, the desire to test himself against the best etc etc, to single out a win against a half dead Tyson as a highlight is a little odd.

One of the Hilton brothers went to rob a pharmacy wearing a track suit with his name written on the back. I kid you not.

Re: The greatest fight
Like their Dad they were all top quality Ice hockey players.....
Consensus was.. they would have hit the majors...If....
1. Boxing hadn't been their first love..
2. If they could've lost the habit of being sent to the stands so often...

They were pretty decent boxers. I wonder how good they would have been at hockey. Shame about their mental issues though.

Re: The greatest fight
Not just because it's a good fire fight, but also because it's among the final 15 round fights: Canizales v Seabrooks had some great action and skill.
Didn't seem to bother Seabrooks that he kept getting countered right on the chin, he was determined to knock the moustache off Orlando.
