Question about rowing v sculling
Would a quadruple sculls boat (8 oars) beat a quadruple rowing boat (4 oars) in a race (assuming rowers of equal standard)?
I assume it would, but oars in rowing seem to be a lot longer than oars used in sculling - so more leverage.

Re: Question about rowing v sculling
Despite the extra reach on the length of the blades, the flexibility using just one arm per blade means the reach on the 2 sculling blades isn't much less at all. The symmetry there also means the energy used is more efficient and there isn't side to side motion disrupting the boat speed. You also use slightly more arm and back power because you are able to. And the total blade surface area is greater. A quad would be closer in speed to an 8 than a 4, from what I recall
