Phil Jones - BBC Athlete Botherer

Phil is spoiling the otherwise brilliant BBC coverage of the Olympics.

His rambling interrogations of athletes, trackside, with clueless, long-winded, monotone questions while competitors stand there looking puzzled are very embarrassing. I have it on good authority that most people switch to BBC3 when he starts droning on.

Someone should start a petition on the Facebook.

Get Balding or Johnson down there, trackside, now. Even Brendan Foster if he's not busy queuing at the burger van.

The only reason Balding realised is because she's a massive twitter user, I don't know if Phil Jones is.

To be honest I think most of the interviews are pretty pointless anyway, they always do it straight afterwards when they're out of breath and knackered. Waste of time.

Spot on I think. 4 years full time training, generous funding, no day-job to distract you and you go SLOWER than you did 4 years ago.

Balding was right to be gutted.

I can see how it can be useful for journos and other folk trying to keep abreast of latest developments in a particular field but there are far too many z-listers desperate to stay relevant on there.

Agree with the OP btw - I start cringeing and wriggling as soon as I see Phil with his mic trying to entice a startled looking athlete onto national TV.
