Both have been offically announced now. Donaire did his little video thing this morning...

Donaire vs Nishioka / Rios vs Alvarado

By Ronnie Nathanielsz
WBO/IBF super bantamweight champion Nonito “The Filipino Flash” Nonito Donaire will now face Japan’s classy WBC super champion Toshiaki Nishioka at the Home Depot Center in Carson, California on October 13.

Top Rank promoter Bob Arum had planned to match Donaire against Mexican warrior Jorge “Travieso” Arce on that date but Arce reportedly requested a postponement because he first wanted a tune-up fight although the BoxingScene.com/Manila Standard learned he was asking for too much money to face Donaire.

Arum who is arriving with his wife Lovee in Manila on Wednesday told BoxingScene/ Manila Standard that Donaire “will be fighting on October 13 against (Toshiaki) Nishioka at the Home Depot.”

Arum said “it should be a terrific fight" while the co-feature between undefeated WBA lightweight champion Brandon “ Bam Bam” Rios (30-0-1, 23 KO’s) and rugged undefeated Mike Alvarado (33-0, 23 KO’s) "should be an unbelievable fight.”

Nishioka was at ringside when Donaire won the IBF title with a comfortable twelve round decision over South African champion Jeffrey “Mongoose” Mathebula in the process breaking his jaw in two places resulting in surgery that will keep Mathebula out of the gym for several months.

In fact Nishioka entered the ring and exchanged pleasantries with Donaire. He later told BoxingScene/Manila Standard that he wanted to fight Donaire next.

For his part, Donaire has told us several times that he believes Nishioka is the best fighter in the 122 pound division and indicated he wants to prove himself against the Japanese southpaw.

Donaire noted that Nishioka had “proven himself in this weight class to be the real champion” and “The Filipino Flash” would wish to win another title in his unification quest before moving up to the featherweight division.

Nishioka’s last fight was an impressive twelve round unanimous decision over former champion Rafael Marquez, brother of Mexican legend Juan Manuel Marquez, on October 1, 2011 - but a one year layoff before fighting Donaire doesn’t seem to bother the Japanese boxer.

Nishioka won the interim WBC title with a twelve round unanimous decision over Thailand’s Napapol Sor Rungvisai on September 15, 2008 and the beat Genaro “Poblanito” Garcia by a 12th round TKO on March 1, 2009 to confirm his hold on the title.

He also scored a sensational 3rd round TKO over Mexico’s Jhonny Gonzalez on May 23, 2009 and routed Filipino Balweg Bangoyan by a 5th round TKO on April 30, 2010.

Donaire is best known for his spectacular 5th round “Knockout of the Year” over Australia’s Vic Darchinyan and his 2nd round demolition of WBC/WBO bantamweight champion Fernando Montiel before be moved up in weight to capture the WBO super bantamweight title with a twelve round split decision over Wilfredo Vazquez Jr last February in San Antonio, Texas and then took the IBF title with a comfortable win over Jeffrey Mathebula.

Taken from BoxingScene: http://www.boxingscene.com/donaire-nishioka-rios-alvarado-huge-night-action--55758

This will be a massive win for Donaire if he pulls this win off, should be the making of someone who up to now hasn't been apprieciated.

I hope Alvarado breaks Rios' face and retires him, just dispise the guy. His attitude after Abril got robbed was like a spoilt child, trying to defend the decision and then to start insulting respected journos.

My predictions are: Donaire (SD) and Alvarado (LKO)

Thoughts!?

Cheers

The Donaire fight is a very difficult one to predict, if he goes looking for the knockout he is going to get outboxed. Nishioka is a very good fighter and should be a great fight.

Alvarado vs Rios is going to be a war!

Two great matchups indeed.

I'm guessing this is going to end up on Boxnation?

According to Az Canelo is chinny after he took a clean shot to the chin and held on until his head cleared a little (which took about 10 seconds).

The first and only person I have heard spout such nonsense.

Maybe I'll start using this way of thinking. Here is a list of fighters who are now chinny:

Shane Mosley - Got floored by Manny
Mayweather - Held on for dear life against Mosley
Margarito - Got KO'ed against Mosely
Sugar Ray Leonard - Got floored by Dickie Eklund
Carl Froch - Got floored by Taylor

etc........

Yes, Alvarado-rios is the fight I've wanted to see for a while. It will be a war gatti-ward style, both fight one way, going forward and both have great china, great stamina and a lot of power. Winner faces matthysse

I think donaire will beat nishioka reasonably easy. Nishioka is a great fighter true but may be in the twilight of his career. He is 36 and of the back of a years inactivity. He was pretty impressive vs Marquez but he was never as good as his brother and didn't have the speed or size to trouble nishioka. Donaire is a lot faster and a lot fresher than Marquez and has far more aspects to his game than munroe

Picking Donaire over Nishioka and for Rios to grind out a late stoppage on Alvarado, two great fights though of contrasting styles. I expect Donaire to be in a real tough fight with Nishioka especially the first 6, but I expect him to be a bit too cute over the 12 and maybe the power will get to him at some stage.

Nishioka is rated number 1 by the ring, should be a great fight and Nishioka has a bit of pop as Ghonzalez found out... Wouldn't count out Nishioka, he is a very good fighter and will cause Donaire problems with his style.

I don't get the hype around Abner Mares either can someone explain it to me? He did well to win the tourney, but hasn't really proved anything at super bantamweight and I have heard people calling Donaire a coward because he is fighting Nishioka instead of Mares and Rigo, surely fighting the proven best in the division cannot be knocked?

i hope donaire can pull it all together in this fight, he has looked less than perfect (which is his usual standard) his last few fights, and he will need to be on top form to beat the japenese guy. having said that i think his power stops anybody at 122 and see a mid rounds KO.

rios goes in favourite and wins comfortably for me, alvardo has been weakly matched for somebody win 33 pro wins

His power hasn't stopped the last 2 guys a 122 and they were of far lesser quality than 'the japenese guy' who has only ever been stopped once when he was 18.

Personally I think as long as Nishioka isn't suffering from ring rust its a pick em fight.

thats the point im making, if he doesnt up his game from his last few performances he will be in trouble.

and he has had both his opponents down, and has the POTENTIAL to stop anyone at 122, when he brings his A game, the shot that KOd monteil would have put down a horse.

Yeah that shot he put Mathebula down with was an absolute cracker, I don't think Mathebula knew where he was until later in the next round!

Donaire always uses that check hook, draws the attack and then counters,. cracking shot.

Think he broke Mathebula's jaw.

BoxingFan88, I wouldn't listen too much to these ducker statements, whilst I would like to see Donaire face Mares and Rigo he is clearly facing the most established and clear top man in the division. Rigo's best win I think was Rico Ramos, who to be honest although I believe was unbeaten wasn't anything particularly special. Mares I don't think has fought since December when he had a great win over Agbeko (At BW). I think it's more of a case of people not being happy that Donaire isn't taking on their favourites rather than the best, or they don't realise how fantastic Nishioka has been, I think he is a tad over rated in some places, however the Number 1 in the division he most certainly is unless of course, The Flash knocks him off his perch.

Mathebula got his jaw broken by a right hand in the 11th I think, he completely stopped throwing after that, showed what Donaire could do to him when he stopped throwing hayemakers and used his skills.

I get fed up of the Rigo fan boys, he is a great talent but he is yet to prove himself, apparently Donaire was ducking him before Rigo even had a title. If Rigo beat up Vasquez, or even Arce then I would be calling for him to fight Donaire. Up to now he is all based on speculation rather than solid results. Much like Bute was before he fought Froch and we saw how that panned out, he never really had a gut check and was found wanting when it happened.

It is a cracking matchup and I want to see it, however calling Donaire a ducker has absolutely no truth at all, just look at his string of opponents.
