Perfect for Amir Khan?
Former two-time world champion Joan Guzman will face an unnamed opponent for the vacant WBA light-welterweight title.
With Danny Garcia awarded 'super-champion' status by the sanctioning body, Guzman was named as mandatory challenger to interim champion Pablo Cesar Cano.
However, Cano has opted to step up to welterweight to take on WBA champion Paulie Malignaggi on October 20 leaving Guzman in prime position for the 140lb strap.
It is almost five years since Dominican Guzman held the WBO super-featherweight title, since when his career has taken on roller-coaster proportions.
Hand injuries and weight problems have marred his progress, failing by some way to make 135lb for a title fight two years ago, before being banned later in 2010 for failed a doping test for use of a diuretic.
The still-unbeaten 36-year-old has won three fights since his return at the 140lb limit, albeit against sub-standard opposition

Can't understand why Khan would want to hang around at Light Welter for.
He has been there, done it and actually did quite well at the weight. there is nothing left for him to prove at light welter, I'm surprised he stayed there after Peterson failed his drug test.
Surely a new chapter at Welter would rejuvinate him and give him something to be excited about.

Khan should have stayed amateur. The standard is much lower there and he needs the headgear because his chin is no good. Going pro was a big mistake.

The millions in his back pocket say otherwise.

WHAT!? Light Welter is starting to fill with guys who are HARDER punchers than the majority of Welters!! Matthyse, Rios, Alvarado, Garcia.....
I forgot the current WBA Welter champ is quite the bonecruncher Khan can do better in a Welter division that is currently lacking in strength. Light Welter is getting a little dangerous for a guy with a paper chin.

Money is not as important as health! Khan has been knocked about so many times he should think about his long term health or else whatever money he earns will be spent on hospital bills and he will never get to enjoy it. Maybe he should go back to amateurs if that is allowed? The headgear is a big advantage. There are much less knockouts in amateur boxing and it is safer overall.

The headgear is a big advantage.
Advice you probably should have taken heed of yourself.

its about time guzman stepped it up again. been a few years since hes even tested himself. i rate him very highly, but the garcia KO doesnt suddenly make khan a walk in the park for most fighters. cant see these two fighting each other for an interim belt. the interim belt is surely set up as a stepping stone for guzman, who needs to get back into the spotlight sooner rather than later, hes getting on a bit.
