Scarlets V London Welsh Empty Re: Scarlets V London Welsh

Post by maestegmafia Sat 25 Aug 2012, 3:21 pm

It's a warm welcome back to rugby at Parc y Scarlets this Saturday afternoon as the Scarlets host London Welsh for an historic and thrilling fixture with plenty of rivalry and entertainment in store for supporters.

Following two games on the road in the run up to the new season, the Scarlets return home with the chance for loyal Scarlets supporters to welcome back many of West Wales rugby's top-billing players.
And the afternoon will be held in honour of Scarlets front row stalwart Iestyn Thomas who has chosen to give the proceeds of his benefit game to cancer charity, Tenovus. Iestyn Thomas will lead the team out on the field to be welcomed by the home crowd this Saturday afternoon, kick off 2.30pm.

As the Scarlets coaching staff fine tune their selection and performance ahead of the season's showcase opener against Leinster on Saturday September 1st (kick off 1830 PYS), supporters will see the return at heart and soul rugby country of internationals George North, Scott Williams, Liam Williams, Tavis Knoyle, Ken Owens Aaron Shingler along with some of the regions new faces - including two former Ospreys players, wing Kristian Philips and second row Richard Kelly.

There is also a return from injury to the starting line-up for Scarlets long-serving Prop Phil John.

Scarlets team selection v London Welsh, Saturday 25th August 2012, Parc y Scarlets kick off 2.30pm.

15 Liam Williams
14 Kristian Phillips
13 Gareth Maule
12 Adam Warren
11 Andy Fenby
10 Aled Thomas
9 Tavis Knoyle

1 Phil John
2 Ken Owens
3 Deacon Manu
4 Sione Timani
5 Richard Kelly
6 Josh Turnbull
7 Johnathan Edwards
8 Rob McCusker (capt)

Replacements: Jordan Williams, Scott Williams, George North, Dan Newton, Gareth Davies, Peter Edwards, Kirby Myhill, Samson Lee, George Earle, Aaron Shingler, Craig Price, Richie Pugh.

Scarlets Head Coach, Simon Easterby said: "This is a very important game for us in our preparation for Leinster a week Saturday, pushing on from what we have done in our pre-season phase and now moving into the final elements of building our performance. We're looking at more continuity in our selection and so there won't be as many changes on the field early on as we've seen in previous weeks.

"It's the first time some of our new players will have got a home run out in Scarlets colours including second row George Earle and I'm sure they'll get a very warm reception from our home supporters.

"As well as being a key game in our build-up the new season kick-off for our rugby group, it should be a great afternoon out for our supporters with the added colour, spice and tradition of playing London Welsh here in Llanelli and the boys are all eager and looking forward to the contest."

It is as ridiculous as Jonny Wilkinsons run of injuries. I do feel sorry for him. But I am not surprised to hear that he is injured...

A jaw, or cheekbone should heal quick enough for it not to interrupt his season too badly.

Scarlets V London Welsh Empty Re: Scarlets V London Welsh

FULL-TIME: Scarlets 23-17 London Welsh

82min: CON Scarlets 23-17 London Welsh (Jordan Williams)

82min: TRY Scarlets 21-17 London Welsh (Scott Williams)

Scarlets work it wide from the restart to Maule and some great offloading and support play sees Scott Williams go over and has the Scarlets crowd on their feet

80min: CON Scarlets 16-17 London Welsh (Jewell)

80min: TRY Scarlets 16-15 London Welsh (Holmes)

76min: Scarlets scrum but Runciman is away and has Williamson in support....and it's pressure from Welsh in side the 22 and it pays off as Holmes skips through a tackle anfd he's clean through!

73min: Scarlets still on the Welsh line....this time it's a scrum...Welsh get the penalty and Jewell clears to touch

71min: Williams weaves through and the Scarlets are nearly over...then Arscott intercepts and is away...but play comes back for a Scarlets peanlty!

70min: Good counter rucking by Welsh and Brown comes up with it.....the game is starting to open up

68min: Scarlets penalty....they kick to the Welsh 22

66min: Penalty to the Scarlets at the scrum and they clear their lines up to the ten-metre line

64min: Arscott kicks ahead but the bounce isn't kind....Welsh still have a lineout in the Scarlets 22 though....the forwards have it....but a little knock on gives the Scarlets a scrum

63min: Knock on on half way and Welsh have a scrum and a chance to keep the pressure up

62min: PEN Scarlets 16-10 London Welsh (Jewell)

61min: A succession of penalties to Welsh and Jewell will go for the posts....

58min: Welsh lineout on haf way as the Scarlets kick out on the full from subsequent lineout

57min: Penalty to the Scarlets at the scrum...

56min: Denbee looks over! But it's not given and it's offside and a penalty for Welsh...they go for the scrum

53min: Welsh get the drive on.....it's all with the forwards as they inch closer

52min: Great work by Denbee at the tackle area and it's a Welsh penalty. Ross takes play up to the Scarlets 22

52min: Welsh unable to get out of their own half so far

50min: Scrum Welsh inside their own 22

49min: Penalty to the Scarlets on half way after good work on the floor. Thomas to touch

48min: PEN Scarlets 16-7 London Welsh (Thomas)

47min: Penalty to Scarlets in front of the posts

46min: Ross' up and under brushes the fingertips

42min: Welsh scrum in their own 22....they work it up field and have another scrum just outside their own 22

HALF-TIME: Scarlets 13-7 London Welsh

40+7min: TRY Scarlets 13-7 London Welsh (Fenby)

Welsh can't make it to the break, as the Scarlets score from the last play! Phillips and Maule combined and Turnball is tackled inches short of the line, but Fenby puts up and touches down

40+5min: Yellow card - London Welsh (Mills)

Knoyle intercepts as Tonga'uiha bangs up the middle and Mills sees yellow as the Scarlets try to break....Thomas to touch with the penalty

40+3min: Scott kicks ahead and puts in agood chase....Welsh get the scrum inside the Scarlets half....one last chance for points perhaps!

40min: Scarlets penalty...they find touch inside the Welsh half.....Thomas' kick only finds Scott and he kicks long....Scarlets drop out

35min: CON Scarlets 8-7 London Welsh (Ross)

Both sides have already made subs, and Ross, on for Henson, takes over the kicking

35min: TRY Scarlets 8-5 London Welsh (Beach)

Straight from the restart Welsh put the pressure on and Beach goes over from close range

33min: TRY Scarlets 8-0 London Welsh (Fenby)

Henson hits the same post and the Scarlets break up the left wing through Fenby and Thomas. They go right and Knoyle sends over Fenby in the corner

30min: Yellow card - Scarlets (Owens)

29min: That balls not coming out, Welsh scrum....and it goes down and the referee has seen enough

28min: Henson to touch....

27min: Phillips' grubber takes play to just outside the Welsh 22....Welsh penalty and referee James Jones speaks to the Scarlets captain Rob McCusker

26min: Still no real pattern or flow to the game...

25min: Scarlets scrum...and Welsh have the penalty....they run it...but it's a penalty to the Scarlets at the breakdown

23min: It's untidy ball and it's a Scarlets lineout

22min: Big scrum by Scarlets but it's Welsh that get the penalty....Henson to touch just outside the Scarlets 22

21min: Good take by Williams as he collects his own up and under, but he just looses it forward on the ground

20min: But Scarlets win the lineout.....

20min: Welsh penalty at the scrum....big moment that....huge kick by Henson to touch

17min: Henson's kick rebounds off the post and Scarlets find a good touch near half way

16min: Good carry by Browne...Welsh penalty....Holmes take it quicky and Scarlets not ten metres. Henson for the posts....

14min: PEN Scarlets 3-0 London Welsh (Thomas)

13min: Penalty Scarlets....this time they go for the posts....

12min: Scarlets win it though and Phillips chips ahead. Arscott is back and finds touch...Scarlets still on the attack....

11min: Good touch by Henson takes play back into Scarlets half

9min: The Scarlets try and get the drive on from the lineout....but good defence by Welsh and they turn the ball over in the tackle and then win a penalty

8min: Kulemin takes the lineout ball....but penalty to Scarlets as Welsh hold on in the tackle...Thomas to touch

7min: Penalty Welsh as Scarlets go in off their feet....Henson to touch

5min: Crossing against Welsh from the lineout.....penalty to Scarlets and Thomas finds touch on the Welsh 22

5min: Big push from Welsh pack but it's the Scarlets who come up with it and they find a good touch

4min: Pressure from Welsh metres out, but Scarlets defence holds firm....penalty Welsh as Timani goes in at the side....Welsh opt for the scrum....

1min: Referee chatting to touch judge on far side.....penalty to Welsh for something! Henson for corner....

2:35pm: Gavin Henson to get us underway....Welsh in red, Scalrets in black

hmmm the shoulder barge he got up fine from, it was a ruck 5 mins after when he got to his feet and feeling his face, so not really sure when/how he got injured. I thought it was just an unlucky knock in a ruck myself.

Henson's injury was pretty early on, and he played on for a fair while after. From where I was sitting I didn't see the shoulder-barge, but I guess if that is what they are claiming injured Henson then that would make sense as their replacement number 8 (a big islander) put in more than his fair share of head height tackles with no arms (or atleast very delayed on getting his arms up).

To be fair the try at the end of the match was good to see a typical counter attcking try.

Henson is reported as potentially being out of action until the new year, though n one can know until the Xrays show the extent of the damage:

All I can say that watching live, he got up fine from the shoulder barge if a little winded. It was from the ruck he got up feeling his face so who knows. Bad knocks happen, I think he's just been very unlucky.

Welsh are looking at whether they can bring a citing against Deacon Manu for the late hit, that allegedly caused the injury.

Reported in the Telegraph and TRP.

Sounds like GH is trying to make a go of it at LW, so this is unfortunate for the guy.

Former Wales international Gavin Henson suffered a suspected fractured cheekbone in his debut for London Welsh, and will miss the first six weeks of the Aviva Premiership season.

Henson took a blow to the face early in a pre-season 23-17 defeat to Scarlets in Llanelli.

Nah Hound I mean their report in general, got the wrong names of players who scored etc, just a poor article really and looks like a lot of it has been lifted from the Fail article (why they would do that is beyond me!)

Broken cheekbone in 3 places but no need for metal work -- out for 6 weeks, but should train again in 3 weeks:

dreamer, TRP has its inaccuracies for sure, when it comes to some things. The story is as reported from the LW pov; and they were not happy.

I'm not casting judgement, but Henson will always be a talking point.

Cardiff and Ealing players had to leave the field owing to injury in yesterday's friendly. They aren't going to make the news though.

This is from the Times and a full John Taylor quote:

"We're upset with what happened and it certainly wasn't what Gavin needed. We will look at the incident with the Scarlets. If needed we will deal with it internally between the two clubs"

so hardly any talk of citings is there?

the new season hasn't even started and already papers like the Fail and TRP are just spouting nonsense. Tis such a pest.

Wales online are saying that a citing is 'unlikely'.

www.walesonline.co.uk%2Frugbynation%2Frugby-news%2F2012%2F08%2F27%2Flondon-welsh-to-demand-talks-with-scarlets-over-gavin-henson-injury-91466-31703131

They also quote Taylor as saying that he is going to 'look at' the 'video' at the beginning of the week.

So there is footage of the incident...

I think it's in the public interest that this is released asap, so we can end this torrent of speculation. Maybe via that wikileaks fella? He has plenty of time on his hands at the moment.

"If needed we will deal with it internally between the two clubs"

How can an incident like that be dealt with 'internally'? Unless they plan on having a dust-up in the carpark?

Non story, theyve reviewed what happened and decided it wasnt the hit from Manu that caused it but the later accidental clash of heads. In future they should learn to keep their comments in check till they have the information required to make accusations through the press.

Who are they? I thought LW just said that they'd review the footage to see if the incident required any action.

I thought it was the Western Fail and TRP that was accusing players and saying there was more to it.

Lyn Jones said it was the late shoulder charge (i.e Manu) then the papers led by the Fail and the Telegraph added in Manu's name.

SHame on all of them really, this has been entirely unfair on Deacon Manu to have his name called into question like this to be honest.
